Inspection II

My car is due Inspection II in less than 400 miles. Looking at my option, I've got the 'friendly' BMW dealer next to me and the highly recommended BMW specialist garage. The Zed has full BMW service history and I'm thinking it would be good to keep it that way. On the other hand there's a difference of around 200 quid in the quotes from the 2 garages, obviously the BMW garage is more expensive . Good idea? Would it be worth it ? I already had an unfortunate experience with them (BMW garage) and I'm quite reluctant to go back.

Another question, BMW asks 105 quid for the oil. I could get it from Ebay for 55, no brainer. Is it 6.25l that I need?

The environmental tax is only 8 quid, I was so ready to show up with a barrel to ask for the old oil back if they would of asked for more, ha!

There's nothing mentioned in my service book about changing the break fluid. Checked on the display in the car and it says '8.07'. Is that the date is has been last changed? :?

I paid 57.15 +15% VAT from opie oils for EDGE 0W-30 (2x 4 litres). I couldn't find a better ebay deal at the time.

To get that price you need to register and be a member of an affiliated club.

Break fluid display if when it should be changed, believe mine says 4.09 and it is due next month. Maybe they forgot to reset it - check vs you service book as that has a separate section for stamping.

So I need to get at least 7 liters, right? I think my break fluid has never been changed, funny enough, yeah! Looked through all the paperwork and receipts, everything is there but nothing about a break fluid change. :headbang:

I think it holds about 6.5 litres, im getting 8 litres (also have about 3 left in another bottle)m this will give me plenty for topping up :)

For brake fluid I have order castrol response super dot 4, also sold at opie oils. I have used this before and it seemed pretty decent at taking some heat punishment, 2x1 litre bottles ordered but I reckon they will only need 1 bottle to flush the brake system + clutch.

This link should tell you what services are required:

Dealer service can pay off later with a goodwill repair that may otherwise be billable. If the dealer is not treating you well then the choice is obvious. If it's a good dealer then an honest relationship pays in the long run. I'm a big believer in finding a good dealer and staying with them and I find they take good care of you especially if you have mods done.

it ok, thanks guys! A woman with a Polo reversed into my in the car so the Inspection will be postponed for now. Light damage, bumper, grilles and whatever is broken underneath... :headbang:
