Exactly JayD and that's the problem with servicing outwith the BMW network. If your car hasn't got a full BMW service history you can't extend the warranty beyond the initial warranty period and that's a big problem when it comes to selling them, most people will want that on a 3 year old Z4M. Additionally BMW can't sell it as an AUC which will cut the value if you're trading it in to them. Like it or not the car with a full BMW service history will sell more easily than one without especially at only 3 years old. Not as straightforward as some think.

In my experience at trade in time, if you want a car from the range thats in demand they will only offer you bottom book anyway, I wont be paying a main dealer for a service again thats for sure.

What you say above is incorrect - I did speak to BMW with regards to extending the warranty on my Coupe after the manufacturer's warranty expires. There will not be a problem with buying extended warranty as long as my car is serviced by BMW main dealer once the extended warranty is purchased. I have that recorded and in writing. As a result my car is booked for service with Bexley Motor Works, where it will go on the dyno as well

Well that differs from what I was told a couple of years ago, however, since I wrote on this subject, BMW have totally revamped their warranty costs and terms and conditions so I am not sure of the current position. I've never know an AUC without a full BMW service history though and I stand with what I said about trade in and private sale value without the BMW history at that age.
