Inspection II booked in....

At Sunningdale BMW where I have always taken my z4s as it's near work - 30th oct with a loan car

Original price was coming in at £1100.
Main dealer discount was showing as £719 at a dealer over 100 miles away
Sunningdale said they would do it for £799.
Now they are going to quote me if I supply my own oil - hopefully reduce the price down a bit more..

They did worry me by saying they would need the car for the day....inspection 2 on the ///M is a 2 day event right since the engine needs to be cold for the valve clearances?

Few questions

1) This is an expensive service - what do I ask for to ensure it's all done properly? Value clearances before and after? And something to so with "shims"?

2) remind me what oil our cars need (BMW approved stuff) and how much she needs to drink?

Anything else I need to be aware of?

Cheers
Jamie

Generally they need the car across two days for Inspection II. I'd ask for a log of the valve measurements when they look at the clearances and shim replacements so you can see how out they were. And how many shims were required.

As for engine oil, you need Catrol Edge 10W60. As you've suggested, if you can, do yourself a favour and supply this yourself to save some £s. Opie are usually very competitive and you want 6 litres I think (4ltr + 2ltr from Opie).

Good luck!

Perfect. Thanks for the info.

Anything else?
Why else is this service on ///M cars SO much more when compared to say a 3.0si??

If you don't supply your own oil be sure to ask them what oil they intend to use, they have been known to use Shell instead...
