Inspection 2

Hi Guys

Just bought a z4.

Last inspection was 1500 miles ago at 58 k.

Would you do inspection 2 now or wait until 68 k?

I checked all levels , oil is still yellow.

I was worried about gearbox oil , antifreeze ...

What do you think?

It goes oil insp1 oil insp 2

What was the last one? And when?

I tend just to do what ever service is next on mine every year with the mot

And if I do over 10k before that time I will drop the oil and do a filter change myself

Well it will be due an oil service 03/2012 and inspection 1 03/2013

So it's missed the oil service,

I would get that done now and take it for the inspection 1 next year

The oil i can do it myself ...

what im worried about is the gearbox oil , antifreeze , brake fluid.

And i want to change the run flats tyre cause they are killing me on bumps.

So my option is either to invest in tyres or in inspection 2 :)

Gearbox oil is lifetime fill ... if you believe that. And won't get done at any service. I just done mine my self

Brake fluid is every two years ... there is a separate part in the service book for break fluid that should tell you when it was done

So neither of them will get done on any inspection 1 or 2 unless the time has gone or you ask for it

Coolant I'm not sure if that is covered in inspection 2 , I don't think it is and is like brake fluid

You could either a. Have the oil service and ask for brake fluid, gear oil and coolant change on top. If you want to keep the service history

B. Do it all your self

I personally like to keep the history up so I have all the inspections done on time and do the rest of it myself

I recently done gear oil easy job cost about £40 for oil
Done the brake fluid my self cost about £20 for fluid
And the coolant cost me around £10

Thanks Sam for all the advices.

I think i will do it at a service.

I got one deal from them:

Inspection 2 ( including oil change plus filters plus spark plugs and diff oil and the rest of the inspection )

+ coolant change + gearbox oil change + serpentine belt change with 370q.

I think its a good deal.

If im doing it myself maybe i can go lower 100 pounds but too hard for me to change serpentine belt. never done it and im quite afraid not to waste something :)

No problem mate anytime

That's a good price, your talking probably £200 in bits for the diy

Just make sure they change the cabin filter, it's a bit of a pain and tends to get left at a lot of places, you have to remove the glove box to get at it. It's usually full of leaves

The aux belt isn't too bad a job actually, however other cost me about £100 for the parts. Are they going to do the tensioner on that as well?

And the ac belt?
The ac belt has to come off to get at the aux belt any way and only coats £20 so it might as well be changed aswell

If it was done 1,500 miles ago and in March 2011 then it's not due a service until March 2013 and hasn't missed an oil service as they are due every 2 years unless they hit the mileage first.

Sam i am calling now to check all details again :D

If the last service you car had was inspection 2 then it requires an oil service at 2 years or when the mileage dictates by the OBC.

No every 2 years or mileage.

Hmm I don't think I would leave it two years between oil service, regardless of long life oil etc.

There's nothing to stop you 'over-servicing' your car, but doing it more frequently won't make the service history any more 'complete'

Mine gets interim oil & brake fluid changes too, but that means I'm doing an oil service every 3 months or so, and a brake fluid change about twice a year (both usually coincide with a 'Ring trip).

Tensioner and AC belt was not included in 371 price .. i guess it will go around 400 for all :D

I have the appointment on 24 nov so i guess i will be ok till then .. not more than 500 miles to go till then :D

That's not too bad

The tensioner is worth getting done with the belt as other will only start squeeking soon
