Inspection 2

Hi All

Do you think inspection 2 from this place http://powerdevelopments.co.uk/service-bmw ... is it worth it?

I see a lot of checking which i can do it myself.

What do you think? ... just bought the car.

Bit of an odd question? :? If you want to keep a service record for future owners, then thats what you do.
People will like to see paperwork that states the neccessary's have been checked. Unless of course your not going to sell it on ever.

For an inspection 2 service thats good value.

I am quite afraid to change the coolant... last time i did it on my golf i ended up with engine light on my dashboard, broken dipstick and coolant leak.

How on earth do you brake a dipstick changing the coolant????

An inspection 2 should be the same or there abouts anywhere you go because it follows a spec ie check this, change that, etc which as you say you can do yourself but you don't have a stamp to put in your service book

That's really what you are paying for the stamped service book for resale time

Changing the coolant could quite possibly be the simplest job, remove guards - open drain plug - let fluid drain - pit drain plug back in - fill - bleed

Other than the leak I don't see how you got the other issues

I know it is a simple job ... that is why i was so blunt on golf when i saw so many problems.

Anyway .. thank you for all the advices.. i will try to call them to see what i can do :)

This is easy to solve, get the garage to do it. Their prices are good, you get a stamp in the book and piece of mind that it's been done properly. If you fancy self servicing it, have a go, but you'll need to be fairly mechanically competent to do it. I've just started to service my 03 roadster myself,it's 9 years old, and at the bottom of the depreciation curve,so not too worried about a stamp in the book.It only needed a oil service, so I did it in an afternoon with a change of oil & filter, brake fluid and hoses, coolant and anti roll bar bushes.BUT, I have access to a full car lift and air tools to help get wheels off etc. Would I do all this on my driveway with axle stands, nah, too much of a faff, I'd get a garage to do it.At the end of the day it's your car, you know how competent a mechanic you are and how much a fully stamped up book means to you.Z's are not complicated to maintain or work on,so your choice.

I have just paid £250 +vat for a Inspection 2 with a brake fluid change at a BMW independant.
If you have just bought the car i woiuld have thought you would have negotiated a Ins 2 in the price paid,it would also be a good way of having a new car to you checked over for any unseen faults.

for me it depends on age of car, model , miles & value whether the strict inspection 1 & 2 is adhered to .
if the car is 8 or 9 yrs old approaching 100k ,worth £5/£6k then rather than £400 for much visual checking i would rather spend the money on actual replacement of parts . suspension bushes, discs&pads, all filters, all fluids, plugs etc
a low mileage M that you are wanting to retain value then its got to be stamped as required .
horses for courses ?

I recently got an inspection 1 done at power developments and the service was great.

Inspection 1 and brake fluid change was £ 239 which seemed good.value.
