Inspection 2: Worth it?!

Hi guys,

I have my z4 3.0 coupe booked in for its inspection 2 next week. It is a high mileage car (140,000) but in great condition so i want to keep it that way.

My only issue is looking at what is done on the car is very minor considering the cost of the service? I can service and work on cars myself so i am questioning why i am spending £340. Would it be something you would want to see when buying a used car? Basically do you guys see it as being worth the money in terms of helping martian value in the car?

Thanks.

Worth sod all going forward RE value or saleability of your car
Spend the £340 on air filter , oil + filter , plugs , diff oil , g box oil , coolant , brake fluid + cabin filters
Any decent should do that for £300ish & inform you have anything else they find

Buy all the stuff and do it yourself...

As long as the schedule is adhered too and you change all the parts, change coolant and brake fluid too if needed then you will make a decent saving..

Took my 270k miler E36 out of the dealer loop at 70k.
Did most of my own small services - oil change, spark plugs, filters and fluids etc.
Left trickier jobs to indies. Never needed much during its' lifetime. Had a new alternator at 250k, a couple of rear cats, brake pads, one back box (from choice not failure). original clutch, gearbox. never skipped a beat til it was tw@tted into by an old murdering git in amsterdam earlier this year.
Also stopped going to the stealer with my UK-based E93 and wouldnt even dream of going to BMW with current E85 in Holland.
hope this helps.

I was wondering about this as well, mine is going to need a big service realistically at the end of the year. I did some research on here, and I agree with mr wilks, that is the route I'm taking.

If you are doing it yourself, make sure that you keep receipts for parts you have bought to show any future purchaser.

At that mileage as a prospective buyer I wouldn't expect main agent history! Or even indy history, so long as there was some evidence of what had been done - like parts receipts, etc. as mentioned in the previous post.

Makes me realise my 80K miler is just about run in - thanks OP!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I assumed that people would be along the lines of a stamped book would be king amongst enthusiasts on here.
It would be an independent dealer so i may do it just this once so the whole car is checked over and then do all of the oil changes etc. myself from here.

I'm wondering the same. Mine's only done 43,000 and I may have to sell within the next 12 months (possibly moving house). It has a full BMW service history so far but I've been quoted £430 for an Inspection 2 and it seems a ridiculous amount of money. Tempted to just get an Inspection 1 and change the spark plugs myself. Or do I just bite the bullet and keep the FBMWSH with a view to selling the car?
