inspection 2 looming, fear not !

been worrying everytime I start the M as the countdown to Inspection has been getting closer to zero, we all have heard of ins 2 horror stories, we all know as well that without proof of it in the service history the car is "a wrong'en " we all know that if the car is within 10k of ins 2 potential purchasers steer clear or knock the price to reflect this.FEAR NOT ! I mentioned in a previous post that I had stumbled across PADDOCK MOTORS, Oaklands Garage Sidmouth Road Exeter, Devon,EX5 2JJ. BMW and MINI Specialist Indys. on my first visit I was initially impressed with the guy on reception, apologies for forgetting his name ,he was friendly and efficient Knew exactly what he was talking about and made me feel that I was in a professionally run establishment. I came away saying that when my service came around I would give them a try. A month or so later, I booked it in after to speaking to Bob ,one of the partners, I fired a few queries at him via email over any reservations I had over using a garage i had not heard of. his manner again put me at ease and i felt confident that these guys knew their stuff. I dropped it off yesterday at close of business . On talking to Bob, we decided that as I had changed the spark plugs and air filter when I did an intermediate oil change 2.5 k ago it really was not worth changing the plugs again. I had also installed amsoil mtf in the gearbox when I did the cdv delete so asked them to leave that also. I wanted a brake fluid change too and though I had changed the diff oil 5k ago they as part of the Ins2 supplied the specified friction modified bmw diff fluid. I Turned up an hour and a half early today and was greeted by the two factory trained BMW technicians , both with the highest qualification who had been working on the M. both were really friendly, explained everything really well, showed me the car still on the ramp and what they had done. None of the alloofness I have encountered at main dealers on occasion, both mild mannered , professional and just so knowledgable. they fitted my constant pressure valve as requested but wouldnt fit the z3m braided flexis as they were a bit longer and they were'nt happy to sanction this, they know best and I am happy to take their advice. They did find a common problem of both rear springs broken, which they have quoted £261.68 + vat to replace, I am just deciding whether to go with this or if I am flush enough to go for a kw coilover system as the rear springs are known to give a very harsh ride. they have quoted 2k +vat fully fitted and set up for this.
Any one on here who has an inspection 2 or even 1 due could make a bit of a trip of it drive down to sunny devon, leave the Z with the guys at paddock, have a courtesy car, spend a night at the Victoria hotel in sidmouth, a charming victorian seaside town on the stunning jurasic coast, next door to Lyme Regis, collect the car at the end of the day and relax in the knowledge that your car is in the hands of genuine specialists and enthusiasts, who will give excellent technical service at less than half the price of the main dealers which will pay your fuel down and your hotel stay too ! Absolutely first class service, Highly , Highly reccomended. Call Them today on 01395 232049

Great review and interesting reading :) Paddock would be one of the closest independents to me so after reading your experiences will have confidence in using them. Thanks.

Sorry forgot the best bit...£484.97 + vat . ps they also record the valve cleraances and any shims used. mine were all within correct tolerances , a lot of main dealers just listen and if they are,nt noisy they leave them.

just credit where credit is due, i have a specialist indy 3 miles from me , they are good and i have used them before, but these guys are in a league of their own, 75 mile drive in the m is a pleasure too 1

Sounds good value too. Awesome! There are lots of good businesses out there it's finding them that can be hard. Thanks.

funnily enough im over at simpson on tuesday for mine.... i love the long drive, at 6am :-) great fun, always nice to give them a good stretch on the motorway...

Great to hear about some good service, it's a little bit of a drive for me but the cost quoted and the know how might make it worth it.

Always good to hear of great service and good value. I worked for BMW for 15 years first as a motorcycle technician and finally as a car sales manager, quite a journey to get from one to the other! there are some really good techs out there trying to do a good job and earn a living keeping people happy. I travel 1.5 hours to my indy, Walkers Autotech in billingshurst just because i trust them.

great write up by the way.
