Inspection 2 include spark plugs?

Very briefly, I took my 2005 Z4 2.2 to a BMW specialised independent garage this morning for a full Inspection 2 service (just reached 61,000) at a cost of £340. They phoned me about an hour ago asking me if I would like the spark plugs also changed at a cost of £140.

My question is, should the spark plugs be routely be replaced as part of the BMW inspection 2 service schedule? and if so am I being reasonable in questioning this additional cost?

I phoned Sytner BMW in Cardiff to ask how much their Insp 2 was and whether that would include spark plugs. The answer was £490 and yes.

Any advise gratefully received.

Should be included, but some garages (including BMW dealers) will quote a cheaper initial price and then claim consumables (oil, gaskets, plugs) are charged 'extra' - so you end up paying more than an all-inclusive price.

Thanks mmm-five. It was quoted as inclusive of parts and VAT. Apart from the spark plugs they are not charging on top for any other consumables. I have asked them to provide for me a printed copy of the items included in the Inspection 2; it will be interesting to see firstly if they do this, and if they do, whether it lists spark plugs as being something that should have be changed as part of the service.

I would leave it at just the service and do the spark plugs myself personally.

It's not a difficult job and there is a good guide on here if you do a search, if needed.

Taking my 2004 2.5SE Auto in tomorrow for insp 2 at main dealer cost is £360. It looks like the indy is taking you for a ride. Try MAINDEALERDISCOUNT through the internet and get a qoute for your car for comparison.

Thanks for all your comments. Although they never admitted the cost should have been included in the 'all-in' quoted price, the bill came out at £430 and this also included the supply and fit of a new fan belt. Someone down there obviously re-thought charging £140 extra for spark plugs on top of service. Glad I questioned it!
