Inspection 2 and xenons

Hi all,

I have had my z4m for two months now and am loving it. The car is telling me it needs inspection two in 5500 miles. I want to put it in now so the fluids are changed (first changes I will have done) and then I know when to take the next changes from rather than relying on the paperwork ( not the most rusting soul I know!) it won't do any harm and it means that if there are any problems I haven't picked up on then they will be picked up before my warrenty runs out.

My question then is should I put it to a dealer or a specialist? I don't have a BMW warrenty so am thinking a specialist would be sensible and they would need to be in Scotland. On the other hand the service history so far is exclusively dealership. I am at least 80 miles from anyone so will be travelling anyway so no limits to get the best guys to work on the car.

If it goes to a specialist then I can get the updated fluids that some on here have talked about as well (redline etc).

My next question regards the xenons. Can someone post a picture of the front of the car with the lights on dipped, full beam etc so I can check mine. The inner lens on both units only seem to light around the edge which is wrong I think.

I think they should be brighter although they are still better than my last car.

As ever all your advice is gratefully received.

Servicing at main dealer or specialist will get you a divided opinion on here. My car had main dealer until the inspection 2 I had done in march.

There are one or two that will say they only want full BMW history, but most will accept and also look at it as more of a positive that it's been to a BMW specialist who may have taken more care than a dealer.

Regarding the Xenons, the inner light only servers to illuminate the Angel Eye, no other purpose.

Thanks for the reply srhutch. I am more than happy to go to a specialist as I won't be selling it ever anyway.

I would like opinions on the best place to do a service in Scotland though so I can arrange a few days off to get it arranged.

Good to hear about the xenons as it sounds like mine are working as they should. :D

A couple of my mates have had their Porsche's serviced here - http://www.spautobahn.com/ I haven't personally used them as I try to do most things myself but I will when the time comes as I've heard good things.

They are based in Stirling which is still pretty far from you. I'm sure there might be someone nearer although your options may be limited in the Highlands :D

Yip, I know I am going to be visiting somewhere for a couple of days but want it done by someone who knows what they are doing.

They seem to be more of a Porsche specialist though. Any BMW ones that anyone can recommend after using themselves?

BMW still have their offer at £830 nationwide for the full inspection 2, see the recent thread on here.

Make sure you get confirmation from the dealer though, some have been messed around.

Alan.

If no one has any advice on this here I would search/ask on the e46 part of m3cutters forum seeing as that is essentially the same car, well the engine, running gear and suspension are pretty much identical at least.
