Inspection 1 stealler or Indy?

I am the proud owner of a 2004 2.2i Z4 with full dealer service history which is now due an inspection 1 service. Specialist BMW Luton have quoted £199 inclusive of vat parts (special offer) and Indy RM Fensome & Co Luton £180 - 190 incl of vat and labour. On the face of it there is not much difference in price however the hourly labour rates are drastically different Steallers £126 plus vat and Indy £49.50 plus vat.

What should i do go to the Indy or stealler? :?

Thanks

£126+vat from BMW thats very good my local Stealers are £174+vat.

Had my inspection 1 done at the stealers but any other work i need between BMW services i go private.

If I got the stealers to carry out the inspection 1 would they stamp my service book if any work needed was carried out by an indy instead?

A service is a service and all work needed to complete it would be carried out within the price quoted and the book would be stamped.

If they were to notice any other problems with the car, this has nothing to do with the service and they would only advise you that something needs replacing or fixing. At which point you are free to get the work done anywhere you like.

I see thanks for that. In that case will let stealers do the inspection 1 and if there are any major problems get it done by an Indy.

When i had my inspection 1 that they found out i needed to change a rear spring did that on my drive.

My Indy told me something interesting yesterday, he's a 15 year main BMW dealer veteran, and when they do an oil service, they get 15 minutes to do it, including fetching the car from the car park! They are told not to look at anything else at all, only the stuff covered under the oil service!

They have set time limits for most jobs in order to get through the work load my mate is a Tech for BMW thats why he gets a bit of stick from the younger guys when he takes a little longer as he likes to clean up the area on the car he has worked on and make sure its all 100% even if it means do a little extra in his own time but as he says its his name on the job sheet and his reputation as a mechanic.

This does not surprise me at all. I value a good Indys stamp in the book over a main dealer one everytime.

My Oil Inspection is due on my 2.0 08, my local stealer wants £290 :o , if I get it done at an indy will it affect warranty in any way.

No, as long as all procedures are carried out to the BMW specification.

Perhaps a daft question, but how will I know if they have ?

Good question. I guess if they found the wrong type of oil filter/spark plugs fitted or something like that.

I do know that sometime around 2003/2004 there was some Goverment legislation passed, saying that warrenty claims could not be refused just because you didn't get your car serviced at the main dealer.

Ask beforehand!

Google their name/read up on their reputation.

Carrying out BMW spec basically means doing it on time and using genuine OEM parts - this can be checked using part numbers, etc. I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of conning you here, though.
