Jeez just looked up where Murketts is...that's a big trip for a car service!

This was mentioned on the other thread too :D

When you combine the fact that they're widely known and trusted for M cars (they look after scores of CSLs, and Z(3|4)Ms), cheaper than anywhere else and compliant on warranty work. Even when I factor in the petrol it still works out better. Trust me I did some serious research with regards to where I could have the big services carried out and nobody even came close to Murketts reputation.

Plus I get to spend a day visiting a friend in Cambridge so two birds and all that!

I know its a fair journey, but was worth it for me as i saved £300 net of fuel and train tickets plus got the service done by a well respected garage...

Following some positive posts on this forum, I tried Sytner of Harold Wood Essex for my Inspection 1 service, instead of Cooper Chelmsford, who I would have previously used. Unfortunately I didn't receive the same level of Service as other members have posted and my experience went as follows:

Collection from my house was booked between 08:00 and 11:00 - when no-one had shown up or contacted me by 11:40, I had to call Sytner Service Dept to learn that the drivers were behind schedule and would be with me within the hour - we negotiated to collection to be between 12:30 and 13:00 so that I wasn't housebound and I received my first apology of the day. The driver said that I should expect the car to be returned between 15:30 and 16:30. I had heard nothing from them by 17:30, so I had to call them to ask when my car was coming back - I once more got an apology and was told that I probably wouldn't be getting my car back that day - which I told them was unacceptable. I was advised that the Service Manager would call me back - you've guessed it, I had to call them back at 18:00 as I had heard nothing and was told that I would get the car back by 19:00 and once more received an apology. Lots of apologies for expensive, poor service, but no discount or other goodwill gesture and to cap it all, the car wasn't even cleaned inside or out during this extended stay !!! Needless to say, I will not use Sytner again and will use Coopers next time. :x

And as they didn't keep the car overnight there is no chance that your valve clearances were checked or adjusted. You need to get back to them and ask why they haven't carried out an Insp I per the service schedule. Then get them to complete it.

Hi, I've been lurking on here for a while, not felt the need to post until now.

I've had by Z4MR since sept 09, and the Inspection 1 service is now due, as i have extended warranty, I assume I have to use an authorised BMW dealer so as not to invalidate the warranty.

I have just had quote form Cooper Banstead, initially for £885 inc VAT, which was then reduced to £777 inc VAT. This seems excessive, especially when I asked how long they needed the car for and they said "about 4 hours".

I was under the impression that the inspection 1 included checking the valve clearances which normally meant that they needed the car for two days, as the engine needs to cold for the checks.

Does anyone know of any other BMW dealers in the Surrey area that are likely to offer a better price, and more importantly likely to do proper job of the valve clearances.

Thanks
Vines of Guildford seem to get good press worth talking to them
