Inspection 1 queries

Hi All,

First off, I have no intention on taking my car to a BMW to be ripped off, and I think I'd do a better service job and take more care of my car than they would anyway. I do however have a few questions about Inspection 1 as detailed in the Service Booklet.

Under "Tyres" it has; Initialise the Run Flat indicator.

and

Brief diagnostic test

Is there anyway I can perform these at home. Everything else is easily done myself but I feel I'll need to buy a piece of kit to do the above (unless anyone locally wouldn't mind renting theirs out)

I'd be guessing the "Initialise the Run Flat Indicator" is just check all the tyre pressures and then reset the RF indicator as per the handbook.

For the Brief Diagnostic Test, you probably need INPA or similar.

Both points are speculation though...

You might find that not having service stamps in the book will cost you more than you save when it comes time to sell/trade-in your car. A lot of buyers won't even go and look at a car if it doesn't have good service history.

If you don't like BMW dealer prices (and many don't) find a good independent and negotiate with them - you can often save more money by supplying your own oil/filters/plugs etc. and just paying them for labour.

I bought my car 2nd hand and apart from its first service, its been at indies for the rest.

I intend on completing the service booklet myself and keeping the receipts for oil purchased, filters, spark plugs etc. (I wont be selling it for at least another 3 years, at which point I don't expect it to fetch much as it will be then 10 years old.)

i have supplied my own oil polen filter oil filter etc just paid for the shims on the tappets and oil for the lsd .inspection 1 £258 well pleased
