Inspection 1 or Inspection 2?

Hey guys,

Currently unsure of what inspection I should be going for on my Z4 next. It's a reasonably recent purchase (6 months), and the history is as follows:

Oil Service 12404 05/2005
Inspection 1 25661 11/2006
Oil Service 39228 05/2008
Oil Service ?????? 06/2008
Inspection 2 + Oil Service 54550 05/2009
Oil Service 84549 07/2011
Oil Service ????? 09/2012
Oil Service + Air cleaner element + Formula One Autocentres 'master service' + brake fluid (looks like inspection 2) 92698 08/2014
Oil Service + Formula One Autocentres 'short service' (looks like inspection 1) 9568 08/2015

So it's not exactly FBMWSH, I'm looking at getting it serviced asap (brake fluid + oil at the minimum), but not sure what to go for. It looks like an inspection 1 and brake fluid would do the job, but I'm toying with just going for the inspection 2 at a very good local BMW independent and have been quoted £399 for inspection 2 + brake fluid exc. VAT, for peace of mind.

Is there much difference between inspection 1 and inspection 2? I still need to get a quote for the inspection 1 and brake fluid, but I'm guessing it'll come in quite a bit cheaper having looked around on the forum.

I'd be inclined to get an Inspection 2 done at a good BMW specialist. I have no idea what the difference between Insp 1 & 2 is, but at least you know where you are with an Insp 2 done.

Very little difference between the Insp I and II:

Air intake silencer
Renew spark plugs

IMHO there's not a massive amount more on the Insp I vs the MOT test...

Check battery
Check coolant level and concentration, top up if necessary
Tyre pressures

£399 + brake fluid + vat for ins2 from a indy :o have i read that right & its a non M Z4 E85 ? :? Id love to watch the guys face when asked what's included to warrant that money
As for your question , i would formulate a list & ring a few places for prices to compare .
Oil+filter
plugs
air filter
coolant
brake fluid
pollen filter
this should be around £300 payable at a reputable indy

The order is;
Oil
Insp 1
Oil
Insp 2
Oil
Insp 1

etc..

So based on the "gaps" I'd be going for an Insp 2

Mike

The schedule you’ve quoted is only correct if the mileage is covered. There is no issue in having 2 oils services between inspection services as per bmw service book if it’s being done on time basis due to low mileage.

I was going from my own car use/mileage covered, but didn't realise they let you do that

Cheers for the responses guys.

It's inclusive of the brake fluid, but it does still seem a little steep! They do seem a reputable specialist though http://www.hpmotorcompany.co.uk/ .

£238 at my local indy - pretty good value. Brake fluid is £39. both including VAT

£300 ish all in not that bad.

Mr.Wilks is sorting out mine at his local indi, going from a Full BMW dealer history from new at the same garage to a reputable indi.
Going for the full monty and an add on from MR.Wilks, basically coming of his car and going on to mine.
