Does anyione have or can any one tell me what is done during an inspection 1 check.

Suppose i'm looking for the BMW sheet of checks, or a bulleted list... Mine is in tomo and want to have a look over the checks to be conducted.

I know the clearances are checked, but what else?

Thanks in advance.

Ali

The most important check of all, Aly

They will check to see what else they can try to charge you for! :D

I wish... Inspection II is next for me.

But hey, I've done almost 40,000 miles in my /MR, smiling all the way.

Valve Clearances on the S54 engine are NOT checked on Inspection 1. They are done on Inspection 2 - hence the ridiculous £900+ cost.... :headbang:

Wrong again Bull, they should be checked and adjusted if necessary during Insp 1. Where are you getting £900 from? You are the king of disinformation.

:D yeh, Clearances will be checked, hence why i was requested to take the car over last nite, so it was cold for this morning!

I hope they take care of my baby! :( Told them to replace a few bits. Also said NOT to clean it and made the servce manager walk around it to inspect the wheels and bodywork...Just paid 775£ on respray'd bits and a full day detailing it so i didn't want any wee polish/apprentice running a gritty sponge over it!

I think thats fair esp. considering i'm payin 621£ for a service!!! he ran through the list of things they check. VERY basic! Pig sick. This has been an expensive month, Service, CSL's, Lowering, Respray, Detailing.... think i need to go offshore again!

I hate stealers cleaning my car also. They always look puzzelled when I tell them as well. I know we have a dealer specific section but I hate Sytner solihull with a passion, Sytner Birmingham much better

I'm just not convinced BMW service is worth the money they charge. I'm planning to get mine serviced by a BMW specialist in Telford. I just hear too many stories from people who work in dealers where they basically rip off customers and I'm not prepared to take that chance with my car. With the specialist I get to speak to the man who will service my car not a receptionist, and the same man who works on my car is the same man who's name is over the door. Basically I'm convinced I'll get a better level of care whilst reducing maintenance costs. All the servicing is with OEM parts and he has full BMW support, so it doesn't effect the warranty.

What's your reasons for using a dealer? Am I making a mistake by using a specialist?

I agree with this point of view but I am worried about the effect on resale value.

When I sold my Boxster, I was inundated with people who just wanted to see FPSH!!! When I explained that I refused to use Porsche service after they messed up the first service they just don't want to know.

I don't know how much a none BMW service history will affect the value of a car say at 5 years old.

You are quite correct mate. BMW Dealerships charge upwards of £120/hr. Better Indies charge £40+/hr and will do a better job - & furthermore actually talk to you before & after your service because they need/want your business... As long as the Indie uses a genuine BMW Oil Filter & BMW Micro-Filters & provides youwith an invoice that proves that, your warranty is good.

Unfortunately, BMW Gbmh (Germany) insist on anodyne "look alike" BMW premises costing upwards of £3 million pounds (minimum) for any company wanting to run a BMW Franchise. That ultimately has to be paid for by you & I as the customers. Personally I refuse to pay the ridiculous servicing costs - but I change my cars every 6-12 months anyway. :D

Amusing. I bought a 56 plate 15,700 mile Z4MR in Jan 2009 for £18,400 through the AUC programme. One previous owner (BMW Leasing). I traded it last month at 19,100 miles for a straight swap on a 3,600 mile 58 plate 123D M-Sport . It had not been serviced since Nov 2007 @ 10,000 miles yet it is now up for sale for £22,990 at Bowkers of Blackburn.

I must have been pissed when I bought the car. Who wants to pay £405 pa Road Tax & only get (a magnificent) 26mpg? :headbang:

Until of course you want an extended warranty at which point a FBMWSH will be required. What you're saying only applies if you own the car within the 3 years manufacturers warranty.

Nothing major wrong with it. CSL's have worn the rear arches a little. Missing bolts etc...I will check tomo to see if they've checked the clearances!!!
