Hi guys,

Apologies for the absence. Haven't been on the forum for a bit. Been busy with new car and job! Done best part of 3.5k in 6 weeks including a Euro road trip with 2 other Z4M's (pictures to follow). This car is addictive.

However, the M is now due an Inspection 1 service and I wondered whether any members could recommend an AUC garage in the London area. I live in South East London and so my closest is Stephen James (Blackheath). I'm ringing them tomorrow to get a quote but wondering what is a ball park figure these days for an Inspection 1. Do the London labour costs make a significant difference.

I'm willing to travel outside London if it's worth the discount and the service is better. I'm originally from Sheffield and Sytner have an outpost there (no experience of them though).

On a separate point. If the car goes past 0 miles till service, does this have any implications on the warranty?

Thanks for your help and knowledge!

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE Stephen James Blackheath. I live in Blackheath and make the point of going to Murketts in Huntingdon. That should give you an idea how inept Stephen James are. Used them once for an oil change and the muppets topped my windscreen wash fluid with tap water. On my drive down to Chamonix I tried to clean the windows in -12C to see instant ice forming on my windscreen. :headbang: They have no fecking clue when it comes to ///M Cars, their customer service sucks... PM me if you want more details...

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your help. I phoned a few garages around London and got a wide variation of prices from £750 - £900 (starting price without supplying oil). Knock off about £100 for supplying oil. All seemed very professional (except Stephen James Blackheath - my local dealer who didn't answer the phone and then quoted £900  ) but not many were prepared to discount.

In the end I spoke to Anneka @ Sytner Chigwell who agreed to a price of £615 if I brought my own oil. Thanks Pawn Sacrifice for letting me know.

Its with them now. I'll let you know how it goes but so far they seem quite professional and pleasant. I was reminded with a courtesy call on the day to bring in the car. It was with them over-night so its ready for the valve -clearences.

They've just phoned saying that the engine mount is loose and they want to fix that (under warranty - involving keeping the car for a few days and removal of the engine!) so it seems they're thorough.

I'll keep you updated.

Gents,

Got the car back this afternoon. The car runs a lot smoother and it appears that all is in order.

Sytner seemed very professional and I can definitely recommend them to you guys.

Ready for 15ks worth of fun driving!! :D

The quoted prices are criminal when you consider that they do little more than change the oil, filter and count the tires.

Yes but it isn't the service you are paying for. It is the stamp on piece of paper that the average mug in the street puts so much value to - the full BMW service history.

It wouldn't be so bad if this stamp could in some way be verified but all it proves is that the car has been at a BMW garage and you have paid a lot of money to them.

I've not had any issues with BMW so far (as I've not needed a service!!) but Porsche over filled the power steering reservoir on my Boxster, then claimed not to have put any in until I pointed out they'd charged me for 1 litre of power steering fluid!!!

My dad’s car was supposed to have had new plugs at a Jaguar dealer and he could prove they were still the originals!!!

On the service side, many garages have huge overheads and are under pressure to carry out as much service and repair work as is possible. The net result is that many choose to behave little better than horse thieving gypsies and I apologise to any horse thieving gypsies I may offend with that comment.

Quick update. Battersea (BMW Park Lane) are doing the oil service for £125 if I supply my own oil vs £235 if they do. Considering you can get 8 litres of Castrol Edge for £75 delivered with Opie Oils that makes it the service a relative bargain. I shall let you know how they perform but there isn't much they could f**k up is there?
