Inspection 1 at 12,000 miles?

But it's only 200 miles off saying it needs the inspection because they must have reset it when the last (early?) oil service was done. :?

Looks like it. Does anyone know if they can be changed to show what you want, or do they have a fixed oil, inspection, oil, inspe........
 
I'd imagine that they should be able to cycle through the various services, but I'd say you need to be careful that they don't skip the next oil service and then leave your next in line as an Inspection 2 instead of Inspection 1.

Definitely more complicated than it should be :headbang:

At least you can fall be on the stamped service book if required. The computer cock up can easily be explained to somebody if required.

This is true. I have the book all stamped up. It does highlight problems with the service interval system I guess if you do low miles. Yes oil & fluids need changing because of time, but really the dealers should not re-set the service indicator for interim oil services if the engine has not done the miles as well.
 
You can reset the SIA indicator yourself. Assuming you just do an oil service at the next service at 12,xxx miles, after the SIA is reset it will immediately show "Oil Service" in about 15,000 miles. There is no separate indicator on the Z4M for "Inspection I" or "Inspection II", so the indicator needs to be reset again to show "Inspection 15,000". This can be done by accessing the hidden menus in the instrument cluster following the procedure here: http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/08/11/how-do-i-reset-the-inspection-light-on-my-bmw/. The minimum consumption level you need to reach before you can do the reset the second time is 10 litres (about 2.5 gallons), I believe.

The actual interval between each service is set at 2,500 litres of fuel consumed. You can see at any point the fuel consumed since the last SIA reset by checking menu 3.0 in the hidden cluster menus (see here to access these menus:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=16471903, the procedure for the Z4M is basically the same, the "check" button to press is the "reset" button for the trip milometer. To access anything other than menu 1.0 and 2.0 you have to go to menu 19.0 first to unlock the cluster).

If the initial reset was done incorrectly and the service indicator is now showing the wrong service, why would it be a problem correcting it? BMW have a procedure for doing it, together with a test to see if the car has consumed more than 10 litres of fuel since the last reset, to ensure that the SIA isn't accidentally reset more than once during the same service.

:cry: Ha OK Im never going to get one in mint condition for the garage again. It was a terrible year for me last year (2012). Still in the same house doin the same business but no car!

I may well get the new Z'd but Im not sure I would love it like the M.
