Insp 1 and valve clearances.

Car returned,no dramas :D :D .Spoke to mechanic about valve clearances and was advised that no shimming was needed all measurements were within BMW tolerances
But did you see the clearance measurement sheet (that they don't usually offer), and did you get a report showing fluid levels, tyre wear, pad & disc wear, etc. that they do usually supply?

If you're satisfied that they've done everything then that's the main point, and you can go round & round trying to catch the dealer/indy out. I could watch my indy do the valve clearances (though not on the Z4 as it still goes to the dealer for now), and see the readings on the micrometer, but it's still his experience/skill that tells him which shims can be swapped, which are too tight/loose and which are fine.

It's a good price for the whole Insp1 though - although I expect that with more of these cars becoming 4/5 year olds, you'd expect there to be 15-20% difference in the pricing between a 5 year old and 3 year old due to the dealer 4-plus scheme - but this doesn't seem to be the case, so I assume the dealer is either just charging everyone the higher price and claiming any discount is 'already included, sir', or is offering everyone the same discount where 5/6 or 3/4 years old?

Luckily my next service is only an oil service (@ 61-62k miles), so BMW will do that before I decide whether to keep the warranty going, reduce the cover, or create a maintenance fund.

Made sure that i got all the paperwork, valve clearances and all levels tyres etc. When i dropped the car i told them in no uncertain terms what i was expecting.Think they got the message for once. :) :) .
