Inside the BMW N52 Engine...

I saw this on another site and thought some of you might like to see it also.
MWerks has a very good article on all of the technical achievements of the N52 engine.

And the N52 photo gallery.

Makes me want an N52 Z4 now hehe :D

Astonishing complexity... I wouldn't want to be facing bills when it goes wrong, but when it's working right it makes a heck of a lot of sense!

The oil/water pumps alone make a great deal of sense, faster warm up, superior management of cooling/lubrication, superior power consumption.

I wonder if the lower powered variants are mechanically limited by less peak valve opening, and internals, or the unit is literally just limiting the peak valve lift, like sticking a block of wood under the throttle in essence :D

I bet people said the same thing when the M54 came out. The N54 is in a LOT of BMW's now.

I have had that particular page bookmarked for quite a while now. It's great!

I had some of the same fears Mr.Whippy voiced, but then I remember just how good BMW is with inline 6s and just how much they test their cars before they put them into production. That engine may have started in the Z4, but like shipkiller said, it's in all the 6s now (with and without turbos!) I *love* mine!
