inner tie rod

Does this seem excessive play on inner tie rod....a clonking sound to, although not 100 percent sure its coning from the same area.

Thanks all.

Dosn't look like its the tie rod causing the clunk, its comming from inside the rack, I would say the rack needs replacing.

Update: so BMW have told me excessive play in passenger ball joint(replace wishbone and rear bush), inner tie rod play drivers side and full alligment. All covered under warranty 😀

Those parts are off the shelf or overnight from Germany

If it is still there after that work it could well be the rack suggest you go solo on that or you could be off the road for a long time given the lead time from BMW

Also I personally would have done both sides but the warranty only covers failed parts not almost worn out parts.

I would hope the inner rods will be both done at the same time. I'll ask the question. I'm still bot convinced mind as there is definitely a knocking from the rack.

They're the specialists tho.

They only change in pairs if they are sold in pairs if sold they only change single items.

Ie springs sold in pairs, sticks sold as singles

Booked in for next Friday.

Just changing failed parts(wishbone arm, balljoint, rear bush and inner rods) then full alligment.

It's costing me £200...so can't really complain. If issue isn't sorted I'll go back and won't have to pay access again.

If it was me (and if you're handy with the spanners) I'd change the full tie-rod on the "good" side and the outer tie rod on the bad side before it goes in. They'll have to do a full alignment (and they generally do a spot on job) so it'd be worth getting it done with nice new bits in place rather than screwing it up a year or three down the line.

I will be really surprised if that sorts the problem clunk, the video really sounds like the rack has excesive backlash if the outer ball joint was disconnected it would confirm its the rack if you were to hold onto the trackrod and move the steering to see if the clonk is comming from the rack internals.
