Industry part ex price

Evening all.
For the last couple of days i have been looking into changing my Z4MR for either a M5 or RS4. So i test drove a number of vehicles, and decided the Audi was the one for me.
So whilst i was on the test drive the part exchange mangers of 3 dealerships, one Bmw, 2 Audi. My car is very clean, FBMWSH and a good spec less folding mirrors, 38500 miles
Bmw were the first to give me a price.......£10000. Was not happy, heard the explanation from the manager, but didn't sink in. Walked out
Popped over to Audi, test drove again. Manager looked over Autotrader and specialist dealers, more or less agreed with the price i wanted, but again the offer £10000. He told me this the dealer network price and it was capped at £10000, but said it couldn't be right and i have left it with him to ask why
I had inquired about a car at the other end of the country gave my car details to the dealer, this evening received an email with again £10000, subject to an appraisal and if the first 1000 mile service was carried out
So I'm asking you knowledgeable members, does any one know why its so low?

TIA
Chris

This is prob the bottom book CAP price for the trade you were quoted -youd be bonkers to accept anything <14k IMHO -ie sell privately

Actually they want to make lots of money. Long gone is a time when a main dealer was happy to make a couple grand. Sell it privately you sell it quick for 12-13 if you needed to. 14 or more if willing to wait.

Easily another 3-4K + privately  I’d be disappointed if I couldn’t get at least £14K + for mine if I were selling

Right now i would agree with above comments & certainly expect to see around £14k with a decent advert & a 4-6 week strategy to sell .
I would then go back to the dealers & nail them to the floor with your best offer for their car & do be prepared to walk , once you have them chasing you its a whole different game

That's insulting OP - I bet WBAC would do better than that!

Why not put it on here and see what response you get? It's free and you've got an audience of enthusiasts?

BTW if it's Imola Red I'm sure someone posted a Wanted ad recently.

Good luck getting a good deal - even if it does mean you are moving to the dark side. :(

I agree once youre a cash buyer you can nail them right down on price or as OP said be prepared to turn your back and walk away
Plenty more fish in the sea as its a buyrs market out there especially wrt new cars right now
BMW are doing some stonking deals on PCP right now on 5 series but possibly not on the M5 -my registrar was looking at a 5 series and told me how much discount they were giving off new ones
I'm somewhat suprised you would go for the RS4 over the M5 in terms of pure driving experience but I guess its down to personal preference and other factors
TBH either would be a lovely car to own

They all offer BCA prices. Had it with my last trade in.

Most dealers aren’t interested in making money on the trade in, they just move it on.

As above, main dealers are not going to be interested in retailing your 10+ year old car so they will be working to a book price to dispose of it by auction if they don’t have an outlet of a suitable friendly independent dealer nearby.

Chris

Any dealer worth their salt, will tell you to sell it privately to get what you want, as they will just look at the BCA price and that's it

I’ve noticed that as I’m looking for an M3 saloon for the family duties and - out of curiosity - decided to ask how much they would value my z4mc at:

£8000 @ 120k+ miles

Literally worth more by taking a socket set to it and selling the parts on ebay!

I do find it very strange that the M's haven't yet reached the bottom yet. Baffles me why the market says you pay £60k for a CSL (good car, had one for 3 years) but the ZM is only worth £10k, when it has a very similar same setup and a manual box.

We've said it on here before, but these must be the bargain on the sports car market right now. To think you could have an ZM or a boggo 2005 boxster for the same money is silly.

I looked at getting a M3 earlier this year and was offered £9500 on my 54k MR. I tried three difference dealers and got approximately the same offer. It was still under AUC warranty and had only done 3k miles since I bought it. I decided to keep it and in hindsight, think I had a lucky escape.

Clubber i am in the market for an M should you be interested and yes that PX price is disgusting.

Tom

The problem is when it comes to px`ing at a main dealer is most wont go on with it. It will traded to a small indi who will be scared to go "into book" as he can’t afford to have circa £10k sat on his pitch.

With something like an M your always going to be best with a private sale, unless your dealing with myself
