Hi, I remember doing this mod on my Audi TT, what are your thoughts on this?, anyone heard about this before?

Never known anything like that on a Z4. There has been some metal plates made to channel air into the filter though.

Gruppe M seemed to be the most popular on here for a long time.

For extra noise most folk just do the sound generator mod.

Not a lot to gain on a normally-aspirated engine. To get anything out of a Simota/Gruppe-M/Eventuri intake kit you really need to remap it and run it on super unleaded all the time - and you’d get similar performance increase just doing the remap & fuel :P

If it’s for the sound, then go for it - otherwise don’t bother.

There was something posted years ago about something similar, but I believe the thought at the time was the airbox ‘charges’ the air a little be forcing it into a contained space (a bit of a ram air effect), so drilling holes will simply allow some of that pressurised air to escape.

If you're looking for additional power, there isn't a huge amount to be gained from most induction mods.

The only suggestion i saw from Exdos on here was that you can see small improvements as speed increases using an air scoop and by plugging the hole in the underside of the airbox to better maintain the 'ram' effect in the BMW system. The hole is a drainage hole so the only risk is if a significant volume of water is making it into your air intake (which is pretty high!).

Interesting stuff i thought : https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=47161&hilit=exdos+induction&start=225

The TT method you suggested would in theory be detrimental to the BMW ram effect and therefore reduce power, potentially.
