Induction Kit Z4 2.5i 56 Reg

Hello everyone,

Im new to this forum lark but have been exhaustively reading your threads over the last few days in the hope of finding advice. I have a 2006 2.5i Z4 which I have been slowly modifying since purchase. A recent impulse buy was a VOGUE MOTORSPORT BMW Induction Kit. My friend having bought something similar in nature for a MX-5, and having found fitting rather easy, this kit seemed a sensible enough buy at the time for a reasonable price.

However with a very limited mechanical knowledge, and quite carelessly not having checked under my bonnet prior to purchase, the seller's claim of the induction kit fitting all BMWs now might not appear entirely true. Whilst the new air filter cone will almost certainly replace the air fiter box without much hassle, under my bonnet there is a black lead/cable attached to, and leading from the air filter box to the side of the engine block.

In the sellers photographic examples of a fitted kit, the described lead/cable attaches directly to the air intake pipe (I think thats what its called) after the previously placed box, and subsequently now after the depicted replacing air filter cone. Unfortunately under my bonnet the lead attaches directly to the air filter box, meaning it will be disconnected for fitting of the induction kit . I realise this may be much better described by someone with more than an idiots understanding of combustion engines and the uploading of images which Im currently unable to do, but can anyone tell me what this component does and further what consequence its detatchment will have on the running of my car.

Many thanks and 'Long live the Z!'

Hi 48, welcome to the forum :)

I'd be tempted to contact the vendor / distributor and see what they have to say!

Do you have any pictures? Would really help those in the know (not me  )

Also, have a look at the link below, this should hopefully help you identify exactly what you're looking at (again for those who know better): RealOEM Intake Muffler

Good luck!

Hello PS and many thanks.I have send a query to the seller but so far without reply. I'd prefer to fit this kit, if possible, than have to return it. I bought it for £40 which seems pretty reasonable. My friend's induction kit truely transformed the sound of his MX-5 Sport which IMO prior to that sounded pretty pink. Having said that, I think the Z sounds pretty good standard but I've caught the mod-bug and this seemed a cheap addition. I'll check the link you've provided. Much appreciated,

'48' can you confirm what engine you have, if it's a facelift model it will be a N52, and this is probably why you are having trouble fitting the induction kit.

Srhutch,

Its a 56 Reg 2006 2.5i Z4 Roadster. Beautiful beast much like yours. Just changed the ellipsoids for your slit rims and the car is almost as polished. I dont quite understand the N52 reference. Bit of a learner here. What is this and why would it affect the induction kit? I appreciate any info and avice. P.S. The car looks sweet

If your car has only 5-speed gearbox, then it is a pre-facelift model. All facelift 2.5i have 6-speed gearbox, and N52 engine (no dipstick).

N52 is the engine type fitted to facelift Z4's, M54 being the old engine. It's a valvetronic engine with no throttle body, this makes it very hard to fit a super charger for example, and I also believe this reduces your options for induction kits. I have had a look in the past for mine without sucess.

You need to find out what model the induction kit you have bought is for, my guess is prefacelift.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Its a 6 speed. Im not holding out a lot of hope for this kit now. Ta for the info S. Im learing something here. Ill post photobucket photos now... See what you think it is...

Here are pics of my Z4 engine bay. The tags attached to the photos indicate the 'Seller's' and 'My' model. The primary difference and difficulty being the lead running from the engine block under my hood is attached directly to the air filter box, and not the air intake ipe (I think thats whats it called) in the sellers pic.. I have no idea what disconnecting this lead will have on the running of my car/baby..

Many thanks..

The sellers pic is not a Z4, I go back to my previous comment, I dont think the induction kit you have is suitable for the N52 engine. :(

Many thanks for your help. I've spoken to the supplier today and they're accepting return. Poor advertising on their part. Im a little disappointed though. Fancied hearing the kit fitted. All the best,

The fourth picture is a V8, and I don't think the first 3 pictures came from zed with N52 engine (black engine cover). The engine in my zed (2.5i facelift) has silver cover.

engine cover colour varies, I know of a N52 2.5si with black, mine is silver though

Edit: just checked and you can see the engine cover in those pics anyway :poke:
