Bei g a newbie im wanting to know all the options for my new toy so sorry for bashing posts out every minute!

I couldn't find a performance section.

Are I inction kits worth having.? I can't see that KnN do one?

General consensus on the forum is that the standard air box is about as good as they get. Very low restriction from the standard box.

Induction kits can help with a nice growl, but are unlikely to give any power gains (and might loose some power due to heat soak). There have been a few heated debates on here about whether a K&N will loose or gain power etc.

GruppeM do a carbon fibre heat shielded cone for around £800 new. Second hand ones go for around the £500 mark. AFE also do a heat shielded cone for around £400.

There's a thread on here somewhere with the full debate/bun fight.... I can't find it though

IME I agree with the above, with any car unless the stock filter/induction system is very restrictive there are almost zero gains!
For that sort of money if you did gain any power (and I'm talking 1-5bhp max) it is certainly not value for money! lol

Have you done the sound generator mod yet? No extra bhp but sounds like there is! Did it on my previous 3.0i and quite popular on here...

Is there any advantage to replacing the stardard filter element in the air box with a k&n or better flowing one?

I replaced the standard element with a K&N filter in another vehicle with mixed results. It did seem to help at the top end, but low end torque definitely suffered. Not sure why, you'd think the MAF would correctly adjust. No idea how it may work in the Zed though.

Careful with an oiled filter ...
I have used them on a Harley with good results ..
But it's not hard to find a BMW owner that has had bad and expensive consequences using oild filters.
Apparently the oil can contaminate some down wind sensors that manage your Zed's finely tuned air mixture analysis computers and the like !

Short answer ..
Unless you track the car often ..
Keep the air filter dry .

I've got a K&N panel filter in mine but to be honest I don't think that there is any difference from standard :?

same. i put mine in the other day and didnt notice anything. changing the fuel to v power was the only thing that made a noticeable difference in performance
