Indicators double flash but all bulbs are fine

Hoping someone smarter than me can help with this proble. My indicators are flashing at double speed on both sides of the car. Today i have carefully replaced and used contact cleaner on all the terminals and bulbs but the problem still persists.

Strange thing is when you first turn the ignition on they go at normal speed for about 2/3 seconds before then double flashing.

I’ve read elsewhere that it could be the body control module, which if I understand correctly is located on the drivers side footwell (RHD). I’ve also seen people say it’s the footwell control module. (Are these the same thing but with a different name?). I’ve also seen that it could be the light control module.

As you can see I’m very confused and would love some help.

TLDR: bulbs go flashy flashy real quick and I no fix

What year/model do you have? Are your side repeaters flashing fast too? If all lights are working, then it would be the LCM. See the diagram below (sorry for the size).

All lights are working including the side lights.
Am also having a problem with central locking with the key fob but I’m pretty sure it’s the rear view mirror being a diva.

Another thing to add I guess is that the hazards double flash instead of the standard consistent pace pulsing. It’s always done this since I’ve owned the car and I presumed it was something the previous owner coded in. I’m not even sure if that’s possible.

I reckon someone has coded them to do that using Carly

Where you based? It’s a simple recode back to normal

I coded hazards to double flash but it makes no difference to normal indicator operation.

Check the front headlight indicators; there are two bulbs, inner and outer.

I looked for the second bulb but couldn’t see it nor the space for it, I have the headlamps with the LED halo around the main beam if that makes a difference.

Fortunately they’re not overly expensive on eBay so I’ll pick one up and see if that solves the problem. Thanks for the advice

Can't see the pic. If they are aftermarket then that could be the issue; worth checking before swapping out thing unnecessarily. Changing LCM will also trigger the tamper dot.

The aftermarket type also have load resistors for the indicators. If these are not connected it will have the same effect as having a bulb out.

Trying again to upload the picture

They worked absolutely fine up until a couple months ago, started it was just the left indicator and would witch between fine and double speed flash. Now it’s progressed to both sides constantly at double flash

Mrs Tidy's 2006 R56 Mini Cooper started doing the double-flash last year for no apparent reason, so I'd love to know how this works out.

Those ones have a load resistor under the headlight. I wouldn't be surprised if they fail over time.

An earth leak fault due to moisture getting inside the connector or a plug not getting a good connection will also trigger a bulb out scenario, unplugging the connector and immediately plugging it back in usually solves it till the moisture gets back in, more common on the aftermarket lights as the connector does not plug directly into the light unit,

Aftermarket lights are better wired in with a more suitable waterproof connector than what they come with.

Interesting, would you by any chance know where abouts on the headlight, so I need to take the whole thing out or is the resistor part of the cluster. This would be the only thing I haven’t checked so will do that right away

I’m going to hazard a guess it’s this one on the cluster?

IIRC there should be a box or similar underneath the headlight. It will have two wires running into it and a connector of some sort.

No, I think it will be the yellow and black wires leading off shot to the left. The white thing in the shot is just a vent.

Yeah it's the yellow and black wires that go to a metal case underneath the light, it's a bumper off, lights off job to access it,

You can code the car with NCS Expert so it doesn't check for the bulbs being out when running LED's.
