indicator bulbs

does anyone know if the front indicators have 2 bulbs in each lamp, am considering leds but wonder how accessible the lamp units are

Yes - 2 in each side. they are unusual in that they are 21w offset pin. They are very tricky to access until you understand how, in that you are reaching through an access panel then rear of the light and then each is set deep in the housing into long extension tubes.

The bulbs protrude into glass domes inside the clear or amber light unit.

Personally having stripped down and rebuilt more Z4 lights than decent dinners I'd suggest forget it by the time you have to add 21w resistors to avoid bulb errors and disrupted flash cycles, but am happy to be proved wrong

Of course they do you fool, but these are the wrong lights they are referring to. The indicators are those two big white lights on the front - simply pull the left hand stalk towards you repeatedly and the riff-raff move obligingly over to the left. Works for me.

...which reminds me of the famous Telegraph letter from the chap who was complaining about the problems of modern air travel. "One of the worst things" he said "is when one is asked by the check-in lady if one has packed ones own bag, at which point one is embarrassingly obliged to confess, often in front of others, that one did, because one no longer has a manservant..."
