I was just reading the post on how one poor sod ( read most of us .... whichever stealer we've used ) was ripped off for a service which started off at £360 and ended up cost £1200....anyway.....
If it hasn't been done already couldn't we start a thread (is it a "sticky" ?) to recommending good independents in each region....obviously it would be down to the individual taking their car to the independent to satisfy themselves that they were competent and good value ,caveat emptor, and all that .

Check the link on my sig. I am in the process of converting this into a user friendly database as opposed to a thread.
