more for people in the uk i guess.

my car is due a service in 3k miles..... inspection 1 or something is due i think?

the car is an 04 plate currently with 26k on the clock....

out of manufacuter warranty...

the question......

is bmw full service history important anymore? i.e resale etc... or is having fsh from an independant ok?
who here services with their dealers and who dosnt? and why?

all opnions and thoughs really on the whole debate much appreciated

thankyou

Just had my Inspection 2 done at an independant. They are BMW specialists and the stamp in the book specifies this along with the BMW logo. Thats good enough for me with the saving i made. :)

I agree, mine will be serviced at a specialist.
I think they are better than the stealers...

I think if you did a search then this has been covered before with strong feelings for and against.

IMHO the BMW dealer stamp is not worth it as your age of car (similar to mine on '03 plate) Mine is done by a local Indy with 'serviced to manufacturer spec.' stamped in the book

It's down to maths and comfort in the end, but for me I ask if paying an extra say £200 to BMW will make the vehicle that is probably only worth £12k book worth any more, or any more saleable? Do that every year for 5 years and I'd need to get £1k more for the 5 stamps. Poor maths I know but illustative of my thinking and since I'm never selling then it doesn't matter...

I use an independent BMW specialist. The only difference it seems to make is that BMW will not be able to sell your car on as a BMW approved used car if it hasn't been dealer serviced since new. They will try to give you a much lower trade in price when you part exchange for a new(er) one.

This can't be true as I purchased my car from a BMW dealer and the service books states it was serviced by an independant BMW specialist. If what you are saying is true I should be able to get some money back from the dealer who sold it to me.

I just checked and you are correct (but then you already knew that!). The BMW Used Car booklet says that it must have been serviced in accordance with BMWs schedule. Thats's it then ..... that's the last reason for BMW dealer servicing blown out the water. Independent specialist all the way.

wouldn't give anymore to stealers

but as an owner and if potential buyer, a specialist indy would be better than just a normal indy IMO

My feelings exactly but I'm having trouble locating a specialist in my local area (Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire)
