Incredible battery life!

So my battery went flat on the Z4 the other day originally thought it wasn't the battery as it's a BMW battery and the diode was showing green.

But after ruling out starter motor and alternator I tested battery which is dead, it turns out that on looking at the date stamps on the battery terminal it would appear the battery is the original that came with the car as is date stamped 10 04 that's 15 years :o

Have ordered a new Bosch S5 from a Tayna batteries here's to hoping it will last as long as the last one :D

Yes, OEM ones seem to last ages.

My E86 one died after 10 years, my E91 lasted nearly 13 years. Mrs Tidy has a 56 plate Mini R56 that's still on it's original!

I have the original 2003 battery in mine still showing a very healthy condition, cant quite believe it really ,it can sit unused for up to a month and still fire up at first turn..quite amazing

The colour indicator on the battery simply shows the charge voltage which isn't directly related to the capacity (Ah). It's the capacity and internal resistance that gradually worsen over time due to plate degradation. 10-15 yrs is pretty good but not unusual for cars that are driven for a decent amount of time each day. It's usually storing them for a few months without a trickle charger or lots of 10 minute journeys that kill them early.

Mine was like that ..................till last week.
Fine one day, gone the next.
BE WARNED😉😉😉

I recently bought a 2008 M Coupe and was shocked to discover the battery was original. Not wanting to press my luck, I immediately replaced it. Pretty impressive. The fact that BMW mounts the batteries in back away from engine heat has to be a big factor in longevity.

Haha..yep, last 2 years I've been thinking "Ill change it this year" but never get round to doing it, now its like"lets see if I can squeeze one more summer out of it" I wont be pissed with it if it gives up on me overnight, it does live on the trickle charger over winter which obviously helps..maybe Ill do it this year :D

What size bosch did you go for?

I have the S4, (4 year warranty) 027, which I believe is a bit small in terms of CCA for my Z4.

Tayna only recommends the enduroline battery for my 3.0i.

My new one is a Bosch S4008 096

Thats the one I've been looking at.

Strange, as Costcos catalogue says the 027 is the direct replacement and eurocarparts list it also.

Is the 096 a perfect fit for the roadster battery tray?

Perfect fit, direct replacement.
FWIW, I had mine from the AA man, (no choice I needed the car), £135 with 5 year warranty
Just seen on Eurocarparts, the same one is £187.99 😲😲

Lovely, cheers, will purchase that one

With the eurocarparts code it's £108, but you can buy it on eBay for £90 from battery megastore. No brainer

Not to burst the battery bubble joy but given the car is built in the USA and no doubt batteries were probably sourced there, it's quite possible that the date was April 2010. The Yanks reverse the month/year order to year/month so maybe not quite so old? Still, nine years wouldn't be bad...

You'd be doing well to buy an E85 or E86 manufactured in 2010 8)

My Indy told me he had fitted an Exide battery to mine as that's what the OEM ones were - it made sense when I remembered the cars were built in the US.

My E46 had a 14 year old BMW one in. It was still doing OK, but tended to lose charge too quick so replaced it with a Bosch S5.
