Increased oil consumption?

Just lately my car seems be using more oil than usual

Can't see any sign of leaks so what else can I check?

75,000 miles covered
 
Well, it must be burning it if there's no evidence of leakage. It's premature to be burning much due to wear of valves and rings, but possible. My best guess is a problem with the oil separator. For instance, if the return pipe is blocked, the oil will be burned instead of being returned to the sump. I seem to recall there being a common failure point with these, but I cannot recall the specifics.
 
mine was drinking a ltr every 900 miles with 86k and from what i remember this is exceptable. :cry: :x :x :x :x not in my mind it wasnt...... between the last service and the next i had already changed the oil :(
 
I think so...

And if it is then the N52 does use oil.....Some as much as a litre per 1000 miles.....

CCV can also be changed under the inlet manifold if its faulty...

Mine's on 86k and it's doing fine... Or was last time I checked a few weeks ago. I have only had to top it up once in 15k miles. Of course now I have said that it will start drinking oil just to spite me :roll:
