Increased Fighter jet activity

As some may know I live in a sh*t-hole town called Spalding (and if you didn't, it's there on my profile). Spalding is about 8 miles as the crow flies from the Wash (the lump of sea on the right of a map which separates East Angular from the civilised world).
The Wash is surrounded by RAF bases in Norfolk and Lincolnshire, so there are a lot of fighter squadrons based nearby. Rather than fly their noisy fighter jets over the Wash, for some reason the RAF (mostly US personnel and planes) like to practice their skills directly over my house. Anyway, that wasn't the point of this thread;
Over the past four days there has been a dramatic increase in fighter jet activity (and I mean a lot and flying a lot lower than normal), including a couple of Eurofighters (I think they are ours so normally don't come out to play because we can't afford the kerosene).
I can't believe this increase is due to the good weather, so am wondering what is going on? The word Afghanistan instantly springs to mind.

No fighter jets here,. But funnily enough there have been many large dull bangs the past two days? We worked out tonight it is the bomb disposal teams, playing down in the quarry, on the river by tideford. We could come up with a great conspiracy theory between us. 8) 8)

2 weeks ago there was a low flying Eurofighter over Newcastle upon Tyne city centre heading North. Also noticed what seems like a lot of bigger military aircraft practicing touch and go’s at Newcastle airport to over the last 6 months.

My lad is an airframes/engines techie at Coningsby and has been on 'QRA' this week. Basically living in a shed at the end of the runway 24/7. No shifts, just kip when you can! From alarm sounding to wheels up is 4 minutes!
He says there's been no increase in scrambles?
However, the yanks at Lakenheath have been increasing their flying over the last week or two. Been a lot about it in the local papers. Lots of F15s over my place practicing air combat.
Whereas the proper RAF brief their flights to avoid built up areas wherever possible, our colonial cousins don't seem so good at navigation and tend to fly line of sight from one big town to the next.
