Increase Ride Height

I have a 2003 Z4 3.0 with the sports suspension. From what I know, the sports suspension is 0.6 inches lower than the regular suspension. Here in Islamabad, the roads are not suited for this low a suspension, as the car gets scrapped from the bottom a lot. Also on higher speeds, due to the firm suspension combined with the bumpy roads, its hard to keep the car in a straight line. I'm even scared to drive it too fast, as I dont find it stable (Please note that this is my first roadster, and i'm shifting from an e60 530). Will putting the regular car's springs(one without sports suspension) help resolve both these issues. What will be the negative side affects?

think something must be wrong if you cant hold high speeds :o mine tracks straight and true up to er quite high speeds. You had an alignment done?

no idea about what you can do to raise it - ie whether the standard shocks etc are different...
 
Hi Jinn and welcome to the Forum. What a brave man to drive a Zed in Islamabad! Raising the car with regular setup springs shouldn't be a problem but I would certainly have the tracking checked post fitting.

Thanks, there are no problems on smooth roads, Its only the bumpy ones which make me feel insecure and needs small corrections in the steering to keep it straight, also doesnt keep straight under braking, steering goes left or right depending on the road (braking issue is also only on the bumpy roads, is fine on smooth roads). Will get the allignment checked.

have you still got the OEM bridgestones RFT on? I found them atrocious under the circumstances you describe...
 
naa, have some nexen tires on it. Not runflat, but they could be the issue. Also all 4 are 225/40/18, rather than having 255/35/18 at the rear, but dont think that makes much of a difference in this regard. Which tires would you recommend? I've been searching a bit and the only ones i've found here so far are the Dunlop Direzza DZ101.

Being perfectly honest here Jinn, this is one time when the poseur value of very low profile tyres is just a stinker.

You'd be well advised over there to find yourself some 17" wheels (or dare I say even 16") and fit decent non RFTs - I think you'd find life a whole lot more bearable..... :thumbsup: If you can arrange shipping, the basic 104s (16") can be had for very little money in Europe and its almost worth trialling them just to see.

But of course you are right, the sports suspension doesn't help either....
