Wonder what people think the next 6-12 months will look like under President Biden?
Are you confident that things will only get better (to borrow Tony Blair's election celebration) or are you concerned?

The Babylon Bee does a good job of summing up the wild and weird circumstances I think... Clicky

Dont worry the troops arent armed... well they are but they dont have any ammo... in case they kill Biden :idunno:

FYI just in case someone freaks out.... The Bee is satirical, its not serious

Couldn’t give a flying f**k.

After reaching 50, and seen different prime ministers, presidents come and go.... ive come to the conclusion that every single of them are lying bastards, only lining their own pockets along with their mates and families. We are tax mules, that’s it.

The bloke should be confined to a retirement home.

10/10
I would agree, however unfortunately they have a tangible effect on our lives

My question is, who will be pulling his strings?

Anyone with even half a brain...and that doesn't include joe...he doesn't have that much, knows he isn't able to run a BINGO game let alone a country. And harris.....God forbid!

Biden doesn't matter a jot. They will give him 18 months in the sun then he will go and Harris will take over. God forbid when that happens. It will be at that point Americans will start to wonder what the hell they have done.

On a positive note however, the Dollar will plummet soon enough making holidays in the US (When we can travel) a lot cheaper.

God Bless America

What will be interesting to see is how many watch the inauguration.
So apparently he received/bought/stole the highest amounts of votes ever, if you can believe that. It'll be interesting to see if the viewing ratio is similar. My guess is that it won't be.

I don'y think you can go by that. Millions might be tuning in to see if there is any "action".

Im glad I'm British - we might get a bit peeved /worried if Labour win or vice versa - we can sometimes have heated argument over a beer or two - but thank goodness we don't go on parade with assault rifles in support of our politicians.

Cant do that in the US either... assault rifles are illegal have been for years and years :idunno:

I think he can potentially make a very big difference - he's already signed executive orders that reverse some of Trump's policies. With majorities (or good as) in both houses he has a fighting chance of getting things done.

I thought it was a brilliant and sincere speech that hit the right tone and makes a start on trying to heal the deep divisions in his country - to end the uncivil war as he so aptly described it. In this media dominated age words matter as do deeds. At long last a grown up is back in charge of the world's most powerful country.

Brandishing Assault rifles in public in the U.S.A may be illegal, but it didn't stop thousands of mainly Right wing, fascist militia such as Proud boys and many others being out in Public, threatening /intimidating voters during the Election,or just random nutters( (mainlyTrump supporters) ,out and about during mxny if Trump's Rallies, without being arrested,as Trump tolerated it,as they backed him.

Glad our guns don't come so easy in this country too.

Agree

I don't think Biden is the healthiest looking person
He does look pretty frail at times, but I hope he can start to heal the rifts that are going on in America now.
Hopefully both Parties can come together and sort it out in time.

I do think Trump's actions are despicable.
He is a childish,self centered,ego maniac.
No surprise that he's in a TV program along with crooks who shaped America, and New York in particular, along with Mfia dons like Jon Gotti.

A grown up with very serious allegations of widespread corruption supported by substantial evidence and witnesses? What about all those sexual misconduct accusations that he had? Seems strange that Harris "believed the victims" of Joe until she was offered VP.

Assault rifles are illegal period, whether they are being "brandished" in public or not.
You think the Proud Boys are fascists?
I didnt see any of this intimidation of voters that youre talking about, would be very interested to see that, got any links?

Open carry of weapons is legal in the US, also there were cases of Trump supporters being executed and stabbed in the street for simply supporting trump, it doesnt at all surprise me they started to carry weapons to protect themselves :idunno:

Out of interest which particular actions of trump's do you find despicable?

Do you think that by deplatforming and trying to remove people who support their political opponents from military service as well as talking about "reprogramming" trump supporters Biden and the dems will "heal the rifts that are going on in America now"?

The images on tv tonight looked like an assault rifle, they might have only been semi automatic and as such not an
an assault rifle but believe me or not, a full clip can be emptied very very quickly nevertheless! Quicker than you can say “that’s not an assault rifle”

They were certainly not the sporting rifles some of us are allowed to buy in the U.K.

Unfortunately, I fear trouble ahead in the US
Angry/Polarised armed people is never a good idea and I don’t think Trumps rhetoric is helping the situation .

I share your concerns but I do think Biden will be looking to take the temperature down a lot and that should help. I watched him swear in the 1,000 plus Whitehouse staff last night and he made it clear that if any of them spoke down to others or treated them disrespectfully he would fire them on the spot. That's quite a statement to make but good evidence that he means to govern very differently than the previous incumbent who thrived on hurling insults and stoking up hate. His visit to Arlington yesterday with members of both parties shows he is willing to be more inclusive than Trump ever was and that will also help. I think he's made a great start but no doubt there are huge challenges ahead. He's pressed the reset button and I hope it has a lasting effect.

Are you talking about the 25k national guard troops they called in? They will have "assault" rifles. The public do not, fully auto rifles are illegal (with a very particular exception for a very specific subset of guns of a certain age that are almost impossible to procure iirc)
Trump made bump stocks illegal so they are no longer able to fire any quicker than you can pull a trigger.

I agree that there is trouble ahead, with the sweeping attacks on anyone who voted for Trump, talk of "reprogramming" people, the ongoing attempt to remove military service personnel who supported Trump or "have possible links to any questionable behaviour", you have a democratic Congressman suggesting that white men are a problem, the deplatforming of tens of thousands of people from social media as well as the abuse of monopoly to suppress and kill off alternative platforms, the threats from banks and other public services that they will not allow Trump supporters to use their services, calling their political opponents "domestic terrorists" and as such persecuting them, allegedly the CIA and FBI are looking for people that used "MAGA", Gadsden flag or NRA members as they are now considered extremist. Of course all these people are "extremists" now given that anyone who doesn't believe in 100+ genders or the wage gap are now extremists and probably just "racist patriarchal bigots" wonder if they will enforce some sort of identifier on them... a badge of some sort maybe? Gold star possibly?

I suspect we are about to see the sweeping "othering" of many many people in order to justify persecuting and silencing them, that only ends one way.

Of course I’m not referring to the National Guard - They don’t tend to cause trouble

The weapons that are carried are as you say not true assault rifles (nor is the AR15) but they aren’t for shooting rabbits in the back garden
