Hello Zed owners,

I am looking to become a zed owner myself and I was wondering, if you guys had 10K for a zed, what would be your absolute must requirements?
I've been looking at e89's and there seems to be a wide range of prices, and getting one with iDrive is really hit and miss, but would that be a deal breaker for most buyers?

Also, has anyone hear of a 'one-off' or 'heritage' edition of e89 as shown in this link https://www.stormontmotorcompany.co.uk/used-cars/bmw-z4-2-5-23i-m-sport-highline-edition-sdrive-2dr-braintree-202103120077560
It's a nice looking car but at 13k with no sat-nav........

Would love your thoughts

Lucky your budget is £10k so rules it out  that car has passed through these pages before , its £4k over priced & i'm being generous there

Its a 23i / great cars , ive owned one & enjoyed it but certainly not seen as the most desirable of E89 engine models .

Its "orion" silver , which is actually a faded out gold again not seen as the most desirable colour , a very limited market is waiting for you at the exit

Its a Se , no real issues other than the Msport has a more desirable look to the bumpers

Its 2009 , 12yrs old & £13k , you can get a decent Msport 2013 with far better spec in a far better combo for way less so why would you even consider buying that car :?

In any Z heated seats are a must if you are going to use it as intended... with the roof down.
After that it really is personal preference and budget.
For me the Msport versions look better with different bumpers, suspension, steering wheel, gearchanger and a few other bits and bobs.
The 23i is a great start, we had one for 7 years and it was brilliant. We didnt have idrive and didnt really miss it.
For 10k you could be lucky and get a high mileage 35is that needs TLC or a really low mileage mint 23i for less than 10k.
The car you have linked is overpriced, I dont even think it has heated seats but it has had money spent on it with a quad exhaust.

35i maybe, I don't think I've ever spotted a 35is that low.

Agree with all comments above though - there are some fantastic 23i bargains to be had and plenty of 4 cylinder options available under 10k too. That 23i example shouldn't get a look in

Every point well made and beat me to it, also that is not an Msport Highline edition, has Msport seats but no nav which was standard plus the steering wheel is off an SE.

For 10k I bought a 23i Msport Highline which has iDrive, heated seats, 19's plus comfort pack and light pack so a fully specced up car can be bought so just need to be patient.

The only really must have IMHO is the heated seats as said above and it allows the car to be driven on a cold crisp morning roof down.

How about Boltz car at £11.5k, I know its pushing the budget but a nice car - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=127886

Or this one is here for 10K - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=128293

 Christ OGR, you must be on a good commission for Boltz’s car, you’ve linked it twice and dropped £1500 off it

I can’t believe it’s not gone either but as I commented before I think that your “normal” buyer is still wary of a modded/upgraded car.

He promised me commission so making an effort as 20% is the minimum I will accept  , Its £11.5k which is what I have stated or have I missed something, said it was pushing the £10k budget.

I think it's better to buy a car off here knowing its probably been looked after rather than one from a unknown source.

Its a nice car for the money and cant believe its not gone either, I would have it as the mods are ok in my opinion.

Well Mr 20% I thank you for your efforts 👍 I think if I could just get one person to see it who is serious about buying an E89 they would find it hard to walk away as it really is that good!!!

I totally agree Boltz, if I had not bought mine 4 months ago, I would have defo been interested in yours, I said when the ad first went up it was one of cleanest I had ever seen (along with True Blues VO car).

I wonder whether the Autotrader search criteria (and BMW's ever changing numbering system) is causing the problem? Maybe your average punters are discounting 18s as they think they are 1800s? Or maybe yours comes up as a high value for an 18? I don't get it. Your car has desirable mods, not excessive mileage and presents really well. Maybe give Pistonheads a shot? :)

black on black isn't the easiest sell, that car is just waiting for the right buyer to come along that will love the extras and likes the black black combo, some cars you have to be patient with but a great car like Boltz's will always sell when the right buyer comes along

Sean; I do hope you are planning to share 50/50, as agreed?

Think the price looks decent, a few are cheaper but have higher mileage, 2014 cars are starting at £13k so cant see it looking expensive and it looks good all round.

My only thought is the number of owners, I would remove that as its the most of the 18i advertised but again that will not put the right buyer off, these cars change hands often as people buy for summer or suddenly discover they are not practical and move them on.

You’ve linked Boltz’s car in both links and said or this one is £10k and it’s his car too

Doh, better change that sharpish - was many to be the Melbourne red one :headbang:

For me a premium car like BMW Mercedes etc. has to have all the toys. Makes the car nicer to live with and much easier to move on at sale time.

At a minimum iDrive, sports seats, heated seats, folding door mirrors, cruise control, PDC (front and rear parking sensors), wind deflector would be nice but if the car doesn't have it, it can easily be retrofitted.

I am on the fence about the M Sport model being a must, whilst I think the front bumper looks great the back bumper not so much and not too keen on the all black steering wheel or the carbon alu interior trim that came standard on M Sport cars. M Sport has a harsher ride without actually handling any better than the standard SE model. Oddly the Z4 is one of the few BMW models where I don't think M Sport really adds that much.
