In the market for a Z4M Coupe

I've recently sold my VX220 and I'm looking at buying a Z4M coupe. I'm sure I read that there's a few former vx'ers on here. How does the Z4m compare? I had a na so I know there's a big hike in power but how does the handling compare? I haven't driven a z4 yet but what are your views.

Any opinions appreciated.

Welcome to our forum

There are indeed a few former (and current) vx owners on here. I'm sure one will be along shortly to offer an opinion :)

Welcome

My view - find one at a dealer, any one pretty much (except the one currently being discussed as mistreated...), and go for a test drive... Though I am sure an ex-VXer will be along soon.

Thanks for the welcome gents, this seems like a very friendly forum.

Are there any good independent garages in the East Midlands, preferably the Nottingham/Mansfield area?

Thanks

Hi and welcome along, I'm from Mansfield and Parkway in Edwinstowe have a couple of ///M's in :driving:

Yes Darren, I spotted them. Went up a couple of weeks ago before I sold the VX and had a look round them. The coupe's got a few miles on but might show an interest just to have a test drive.

Where do you go for servicing?

I use my friends garage, Stoneleys Garage Services on Hamilton Way, he's worked on Jaguars all his life, he used to look after my 911, my friends Mercedes and Aston too amongst other marques, he's a great guy and has an M3 himself, well worth a visit

Just been looking at a Z with a RPI exhaust. Are they any good, worth the extra money?

Any input appreciated

Thanks.

Haha well now there's a question. Budget for ear-plugs for you and your neighbours on top of the purchase price.

I think the RPI is a bit marmite - you either love 'em or hate 'em. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for one with it fitted. If anything modded Z4M's are worth less than OEM in the market.

I'm not sure that modifications make a car worth less per se. If they use commercial parts and can be easily reversed they shouldn't, especially if the OEM parts are sold with the car. They may make the market for a given vehicle even smaller though. I personally wouldn't want a car with only an RPI exhaust as it would be too noisy for me. However, I would buy a car with Remus back boxes over an otherwise identical vehicle with OEM boxes.
Of course, mods that suggest a car has been abused, mods that are homemade or mods that compromise function or reliability should br avoided.
If you liked the car but not the noise, it should be easy to sell the RPI exhaust here even if you stipulated that you wanted the buyer's OEM bits as well as cash.
