In praise of the Z4 community - Thank you, Usel!

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a huge contributor here, and not really an active part of what anyone might call a 'community'. But when I posted in my ownership diary/monologue/drivel thread (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2072408#p2072408) that I was contemplating selling my E85 because I couldn't find a seat that worked for me, I absolutely didn't expect someone to leap to my aid and offer a potential solution.

Not only that, but I didn't expect a complete stranger to offer to loan me a seat for as long as I needed to make up my mind. He rationalised it by saying he was 'paying it forward' from the help he's received here, but nonetheless a very kind gesture indeed!

Short on time to make a stick-or-twist decision, I found myself making the drive to meet Usel, prepared to swap over the seats outside his house in the rain. But not so. In short order, I'm standing and holding an umbrella while he swaps my seats over on his hands and knees in the dwindling light and pouring rain at the kerbside. Astonishing.

And with that, I'm on my merry way home with a cheery goodbye of "give me a shout when you've made a decision".

What a bloody wonderful gesture. Thank you so much! Turns out that 'community' is a thing after all.

Yep, Rob is a good bloke.
He went to view my Z3 for me on his way home from work one evening (cos I couldn't be arsed to go over to Norfolk). I have never met him and never really knew of him before.
He phoned me the same evening and gave me the low-down on the car.

This forum is full of extremely helpful and genuinely nice people (with the exception of me)!

There are some very helpful people on here.
Sounds like a top bloke.
How are you getting on with the new seat?

there are a queue of very helpful people on here.

I would class myself similar to you, i dont spend a lot of time online, i am not very handy with a spanner so my ability to "help" is very limited. But regardless when i had issues with my E89 there were many people happy to assist with advise. One of the reasons i want to go to the Ace Café meetup so i can actually meet a few of the contributors.

top place with great people

Initial impressions are very positive, but I'm going to drive a couple of hundred miles over the next week to make sure. To save repeating myself, I've written more in my ownership thread.

well done Rob.
[ref]DaveP[/ref], I was only 6 miles away.
See you next time.
Funnily enough, you were the helpful person Rob mentioned that fuelled his desire to 'pay it forward'.

Once I figure this seat situation out, and work out exactly which lights I need to programme out, I'll drop you a line. Thank you!

Norfolk Zeds, assemble! :D

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone

I have very recently been helped out by the network of Z4 members. On Facebook marketplace someone was selling a rear wing and passenger door. Bigwinn collected and stored the parts for me and then a week later another member Deano delivered them to my house :D

Martin (enuff_zed) has been a great help to me and my Zed, also providing me with many cheap/free parts which if sourced together could probably build me another Z4

These forums are a great source of information, past and present. I have found myself on many an evening reading posts over a decade ago, approaching almost 2 decades in some cases, to find useful fixes to problems.

It's always been a good community here and even now we are getting new members coming on the boards with new ideas carrying the torch from members who have sold their cars and moved on.
