In a real dilema

Early July! Its going to be delivered to me with my own plate on it.

Got to do some juggling at the bank but that's next weeks job. I am looking forward to a drive as due to the problem on Sunday I haven't even driven one yet but hey its not going to be worse than my E85 is it?
It looks nicer I think and has a lot more toys!

I think I will have to spend a bit of time with my head in the handbook and have no doubt a few posts on the forum!

I love mine, never driven a e85 so can't comment, can you not get a test drive at cooper Durham to make sure you like it :D

I found the guys there quite helpful in the past, but not easy to do a deal with

That's the problem. I had arranged for a test drive with a strong view (90% certain) to buy but due to a prior commitment, couldn't get there til the afternoon. Unfortunately the car had been sold via the 'net in the morning. I think it was sales not talking to each other.

To be fair the fella i was dealing with seemed quite embarrassed about the situation when I arrived and did a lot of work to find me a car (see earlier post)

However I found another with a better spec at another dealer and got a deal that suited so went for that. So as you see it would not be very diplomatic to ask for a drive when I am not buying from them.

I will of course still be seeing the service department.

Does the original dealer know you've bought one from elsewhere? If they "think" theres still a sale in it I'm sure they'll give you a go. Think how many test-drives don't end up with a sale.

I couldn't be that cheeky----could I ?

Having said that I had them change the headlights on my E85 for continental use in August and will have to go and have them swapped back again little over a week later! I will also have to swap the new one as well - Unless it easy on the E89?

I think that might be a post - How do I change the headlight direction an my E89 :D

I might! I did send him a an e-mail and thanked him for his efforts - It was a genuine thank you as well!
The spec was just a tad better and they did a juggle with the cash so i could hot justify a refusal. If i had it would have always been "I wish I had bought the one with the bigger wheels etc" Probably not at tyre buying time.

Opps another post I reckon - "do i still want runflats on an E89 ? Yes it all building up

its a more refined and comfortable drive than the e85, doesnt tramline and is a far nicer interior for sure but i think the e85 was a bit more fun and sounded better

I know people who go for test drives with no intention of buying the car, either for something to do, or just to see what the car is like out of interest.

You said you would still be using the service department of this dealer. I can see how you might feel a bit embarassed, but another way to look at it is that you will still be giving them some business, so they are not losing out completely.

And you gave them a fair go at sourcing you the car.

You could just go in, say you've seen one at another dealer (and tell them why its a better car for you) but say you stil havent tested one and could you be cheeky and try one of theirs, even if only for half an hour etc? That would be the honest, up front way and then no one needs to feel uneasy. If they say no, then you will have an indication that maybe they aren't your friend unless they sniff a sale (i.e. salesman!).

However, if you're used to an E85 then perhaps its not so important. I dont know, but I was coming from NEVER driven a convertable, so it was a huge change from a lifetime of hatchbacks etc, but for you its not that drastic.

I've been back into the service dept and spoken to them and they are only too happy to look after my new car when it arrives. They said bring the key to analyse its history.

They were just as happy to know my existing car is going back to them as well - I suppose it's business and who can afford to turn it away in this climate?

As for the test drives, I'm just going to be patient and no doubt pleased when I have a go in mine when it arrives - I'm sure its going to be better! It certainly has more toys. I think the only missing feature is the electrically operated seats but once set who moves them anyway?

The wait is killing me!

I'll have to have a look on previous posts to find out "how to"

I had a touch of remorse seeing my old car being driven away today - I had that oooh! that looks nice, why do I want something else!!!

It looked and sounded good - I can feel a few sleepless nights comming on.

Yes I know, soft s***e! :D

Should have said, the new one is a 3.0l M sport - Auto - Deep sea blue.

My E85 was manual so this one will feel different no doubt. It has the flappy paddle whatsits but are they any use?

The car generally does that for me!

I only went into the dealership to have a look at the size of the boot and the colour of car I bought each time was the choice BMW made for their advertising campaign.

Suckered in or what?
