In a real dilema

I my earlier post "making the leap" the problem about luggage space was nicely resolved- Now I've found two cars and its decision time.

Two cars almost the same spec apart from:- One has 19" 326 style wheels, is £500 more expensive, has done 5k - but is four months younger than the other car which has :- 18" 325 style wheels has only done 3k but is four months older.

It is mainly a choice of are a set of 19" wheels worth the extra £500 ????

Any advice to point me in one direction or another would be a help!!!!

haha.....this was always going to happen!!!!

I dont know the prices, but I think the £500 is worth it for the wheels if you want them.

Are they both AUC cars? Same place etc?

You got to go with your gut here I think. It's swings and roundabouts. Four months is nothing and the mileage is nothing either.

If they said to you both cars have been sold, which one would you be more gutted about losing out on? That's your car. Simples.

The story so far,

one august 2010 - all the toys I need / want inc 19" 326, 16K Miles - cheapest by £1400 - missed it! sold am my test drive was pm

next one was plus that £1400 18"325 3k Miles

Both from the same BMW main dealer, however the low miles car was outsourced but will be accredited as a BMW car.

The other car in the frame is from a main dealer in the south of the country. Its another £500 identical spec other than the 19" 326 wheels as was on the first car I looked at! He will deliver the car FOC as well, so no train journey or flight needed.

I must say the 19's do seem to suit the car!

I think my blood pressure is going up!

Go for the 19s, the age and mileage is so close that it hardly matters IMO

I have to agree with everyone else. The money, age and mileage don't mean much. You could use the price difference as a negotiating point.

I wouldn't want the 19s, but that is my preference.

If you're buying from a BMW main dealer here's some points from someone who's just purchased a BMW approved Z4 in the last few weeks:

Make sure you get them to include a full iDrive and map update as part of the deal, it's very expensive to do this at a main dealer afterwards circa. £400.

If there is less than 12 months to go on the original BMW 3 year warranty then ask them to include at least 12 months BMW Assist subscription for the online services.

Don't take their GAP cover, there are much better and cheaper options directly available through insurance brokers.

Don't take the Supagaurd paint protection option if they offer it at their franchise, there are much better independent detailers who will do a much more thorough and professional job on paint correction and sealing.

If you're buying a Z4 with 19" wheels, specifically 296s, then ask to see the warranty claim record for the vehicle to see if any wheels have been replaced under warranty. If they have, then negotiate to have the wheels swapped for a different style. In fact, if the car does have 296 wheels, don't buy it with them on, it will be a world of pain and expense.

If you're financing the vehicle with them, negotiate hard, they'll offer you a silly rate to start, but can go down to or below the high street bank rates if you push them.

And most off all, enjoy driving your new Z4 :D

Yes, both are "60"

However I have just had a long conversation with the salesman with more expensive car (the one with 19's) and have identified that the spec is slightly better in so much that it has the bigger wheels, it also has voice control and a windscreen with a grey band.

I'm told this made the car £1750 more expensive at new.

Its looking like the decision is almost there along with another night of disturbed sleep!

Thanks all!

That's a good bit of advice from you z4-35i - I had not given the map and IDrive much thought - I will now tho!
They say they will include a paint protect job in the price. I really do have doubts about it benefits tho.

The wheels are 326 style - I've read the horror stories on the forum. Quite shocking really.

My last Gap insurance on my E85 was thro Hitachi Capital - I feel a Google search is coming up.

I will make the phone call in the morning and if it all goes to plan, I will take delivery sometime in July - Just in time for the Germany / Italy trip. :D

Think twice on the paint protection... it will seal in any bad paint swirls etc.. not to mention dealerships are crap at bodywork and would likely make even more swirls applying it as they'll not clean it down properly before application. Get another type of freebie thrown in then spend some money on a proper detailing job by a pro.

+ infinity!!!!!!!!!

+ whatever's after that. I have superguard paint protection on my 5 series GT and wouldn't of had it if it wasn't free. 326M's are not known for cracking anymore than other 19"s on the E89, they've just been highlighted in this forum. They'll be fine just watch the road conditions.

Absolutely, which is exactly what happened to us. We're now going to arrange to have the paintwork corrected properly by a professional who knows what they are doing. It's not worth having done at a BMW dealer, even if they give it away free.

I would say this even extends to a brand new car! With a used car you are likely to have swirls and may think a new car would be different.

It won't - if the dealer washes it just once, it will be swirled! Well, thats my experience anyway!

Far better to get a proper detailer (note a detailer is different to a valeter!) to advise. They can't fix dents or scratches (well, not cheaply) but swirls should be do-able and they will give the paintwork a good coat of protection.

Expect to pay £150+ depending on condition of car. It depends upon your point of view though.

The order has been placed and the deposit paid! Thee patient old registration placed on a retention cert - Now I have to be patient.

I'll also have to see how the insurance company want to stitch me up for!

Glad to hear you secured the car, I hope you got a good deal. It won't be too long before you're out :driving:
