Improving The Exhaust Sound 2.2 Z4 - Aftermarket Options

Hello,

Currently I have a 2004 2.2 Z4 with the standard exhaust. I love the sound the car makes but I want it to sound a bit more 'fruity' - any suggestions on how to achieve this (i.e. different types of exhaust manufacturers, prices, dealers etc...)

In order of expense you could try the following:

Sound Generator (Scrapyard from a 3.0i - Internal noise only) - Cold Air Induction Kit - Resonator Delete (slightly louder more raspy exhaust note) - Muffler Delete (Loud!) - Backbox replacement - full system.

Its honestly best to do a search on here first mate, then a quick google. Not a huge amount of people have modified exhausts for the 2.2 iirc so there may be no direct responses. Search all the major manufacturers like Blueflame, Milltek, Magnex etc.
 
Thanks for the information, I have Googled around and looked at the different manufactures you mentioned and none of them do a system for the 2.2 Z4. Any more ideas from anyone?

If you're having trouble finding a system I'd go with what Ed's recommended.

However, quick Google search:

Obviously not cheap, but it does suggest that exhausts are compatible across more models. After seeing something one of the guys here (bigcoose - his was used as the pattern for the Z4 system!) had done with BlueFlame (and having one on my GSXR) I mailed the manufacturer as the system was only listed for the 3.0... it fits the 2.5 too! So it's worth contacting these people direct.

Universal unit may be a cheaper option, but likely to be too Halfords. Nasty. I personally wouldn't touch them!

appologies if this sounds stupid, but what exactly is a resonator delete ? and when you say more raspy note, do you mean raspy like an e46 m3 ?

appologies if this sounds stupid, but what exactly is a resonator delete ? and when you say more raspy note, do you mean raspy like an e46 m3 ?

Having asked this question before, the responses were that with the original back box on, there would be a slight increase in sound volume and rasp. My inquiry was for a 3.0Si coupe.
