Hi
I'm hoping to buy a used z4 in the U.S. and importing into canada but i would need some help from U.S. members. I would like to know if any U.S. members know or can find out in their states if a vehicle is sold to a canuck and imported into Canada do i have to pay sales taxes at point of sale. I know a couple of states that do not chatge taxes. If i knew of more states like this i can search these states for a used car. If anyone knows a site online that would have this info that would be great.

Beamerlover, there aren't too many Canucks on the board, but I'll move this into the lounge to get a few more views.

I am in washington state and know of a couple car companies/ dealerships local that deal in import/ export. Washington will have different tax laws than other states so if you are north or me, let me know.

I imported a motorcycle from Washington State to BC a couple of years back...there is no requirement to pay Washington Sales Tax. I paid Canadian Taxes to Canada Customs at the time of The DOT will sell you a trip permit for $25 to drive the vehicle home. You will need to arrange temp insurance with your company.
The process is well laid out at http://WWW.RIV.CA. Be sure to check the vehicle admissibility list, get a recall clearance letter as specified by the RIV. Also be sure to fax a copy of the US Title to the US Border crossing you intend to export through 72 business hours prior to crossing. Call them after you have the fax sent and verify they received the Title and verify the date you are allowed to bring the car across.
The process is simple...just follow the RIV guidelines...If I can help more just ask. I saved a ton of money and had a nice ride home.
