Importance of Regular Tyre Checks

Tood the car on the motorway today immediately the car felt off once at speed (around 80 kph and up). A rolling thudding type of sound / vibration luckily wasn't too far from my mechanic. He put it on the ramp and this is what we found:

Was extremely lucky tyre didn't burst on the motorway! Car is on Goodyears F1 Asy 3s, fronts are ok so only need to replace the rears but no one had Goodyears in stock so ended up driving back home at 20 KPH! Goodyears F1 Asy 6 now ordered and will be fitted Wednesday, shocked at the increase in price, two tyres now 360€ back in 2019 had all four done for around £400!

Moral of the story check the tyres including the inner walls which are not easy to spot with the car on the ground on a weekly basis!

Can happen at any time. The manufacturers will tell you it's always caused by hitting something on the road, old age of tyre or a damaged wheel, because they will NEVER take responsibility for poor quality of production.

That’s what I read, age or hitting pot holes hitting kerbs etc. Not sure if this is age related, they are six years old but I thought the age limit was 8 years, I remember hitting a pot hole or low sunk man hole but that was weeks ago maybe it built up slowly. Not sure if after six years this can be put to bad production quality?

I've had two Goodyear tyres sidewalls fail. Both had 3 lumps on the inside sidewall exactly 120° apart. They were bought as a pair.

The first one happened within a short space of time. The tyre garage sent it back to Goodyear and Goodyear refunded the cost of the new tyre.

A few months later the other tyre failed exactly the same way. I was given the percentage of tread depth left as a discount off the replacement tyre after Goodyear inspected the tyre.

I was travelling at high speed when one of them went. I was lucky it didn't blow out.

I have had Goodyears before both on my E30 and E46 and never had any issues. You must have had tyres from a defective batch, in my case with the tyres being six years old I doubt it's quality related.

I thought the moral of the story was to have a spare car.

The moral of the story is car manufacturers should provide a spare wheel. I would still be on the road if I had one!
