I work on the basis of cost of goods plus shipping and packing. Add 5% import to that then VAT onto the total amount. Then as Pawnsacrifice notes an administration fee of £10. In your case that would all make £7.30 plus £23.00 plus £10, or £40.30
All being well you'll get away with a lot less.
My 'gift' camera marked as such was followed by a bill from FedEx just when I thought I was off free. Assessed it as £100 (Vs actual £450) in value added P&P for tax and a £10 admin and billed me.
EDIT - hope your US lights can be made to work as they're wired up different to the UK one's

If you have a read of the link I've posted in my reply above to CJ's you'll see why i think Aebous having to convert his car doesn't apply to me.

I've used the "gift " bit a few times for small stuff if the exporter is a "small" company, otherwise I'm stuck with customs duties and GST. One way to reduce costs is to use surface mail rather than outfits like Fed-Ex etc. Our posties charge a lot less and don't charge Brokerage fees.
what would be the taxes if something was shipped privately from the US to the UK? For example: If you had the item shipped internally to an address in the USA, that person then shipped it privately to your address in the UK marked as a gift ? (Internal shipping in the US is incredibly cheap by the way) I know there are a few people on here who live in the USofA, any comments?
Are these just lenses or complete lights? Seem incredibly low priced for lights.....how would they be wired different?

I had a certain gear knob that is well liked on this site shipped from the US privately as a gift. You do still have to declare the value of the item and so long as it is worth less than £35 you don't have to pay any tax. Good job that knob only cost $50. :wink:mcbeee said:Obviously I don't import into the UK but I do import from the USA to Canada.
