Import music AND Connected Drive phone connection

So I tried to import the music off my USB pen drive having connected it to the socket in the glove box and my Idrive just kept suggesting I should connect my USB device in the socket in the glovebox.

Interestingly when I first plug in the drive to the glovebox the screen on the idrive goes red and seems to re-boot - not sure if this is normal or not !

So then I tried connecting my phone using a generic cable to both the socket in the glovebox and the arm rest and when trying to connect to APPs I get a similar warning to connect my phone via the USB socket (It isn't quite as specific as the import error).

Any Ideas where I'm going wrong ????

I think it's 32gb - Is that too big by any chance ?

Plays it OK from the socket under the armrest.

I think the on-board HDD is only 10GB. You may be exceeding the readable capacity of the software.
Have you tried using a smaller stick?

Cheers guys - will have to see if I have a smaller USB Stick sitting around somewhere.

There's nowhere near 10gb of music on the stick but I guess the capacity is scaring it :)

So I found a smaller / older USB drive and the import seems to work (no red screen anymore) - just need to transfer it all - A job for the morning methinks.

On the other matter - it would seem my Sony Xperia Z2 isn't compatible with connected drive - Oh well.

Here's the link for seeing if your phone is compatible - might help others :)

Thanks for the assistance :)

Can you update the firmware to obtain compatibility?
Not sure what Model Z you've got but I stuck our chassis number into that website link and it shows compatibility with the Xperia Z2

I get this :(

"Unfortunately, the vehicle identification number entered is not correct. Please check the information entered"

I think my car's too new (2 month old 35iS) for the website - but I guess the phone should be compatible if yours is.

Will have a play with some different cables to connect it - do you know if you need to set the USB connectivity up is some way on the phone for it to work ?

Sorry Jasey I don't know the answer to that. My iPhones both simply worked when hooked up.
