Imola Z4MR - A first attempt at detailing

Oh the tape is to stop polish getting into the panel gaps and on to plastics etc but I also used it as a guide when I was doing large areas, so I'd finish inside the taped area and then move the tape up and start on the next area to make sure I didn't go over the same bit twice

Awesome thred, great pic's and job well done.

Helps with the hallogens though, otherwise its like pissing in the dark!!! lol

:)

A quick look at that Flex 3401 VRG would seem to indicate its a serious bit of kit at the price its being sold for.

Might have a look at a rotary now i have a panel to practice on.

Anybody interested in a PC7424?

PC is all you need though ...

Brilliant result  I am exhaust tips obsessed & yours look amazing I would be over the moon with them, great work :)

looks great for a first go.... always the right way to go with a machine polish - start with the lowest cut combo you have and move to the more agressive stuff IF needed....

Just had my machine kit delivered-Das6 rotary polisher and meguiars kit with 2 pads-yellow w8207 and black w9207 and 2 compounds 105 and 205. Do I use yellow with 105 or 205? I hope my results can achieve your level of finish.

how much did it cost all inc equipment, and time spent?

Probably around 450 in equipment and maybe 30 hours spread over a few weekends.

that would buy me 3 full ok quality details or 2 good ones.... plus i live a day longer doing other stuff. i dunno if this is worth it unless you really do it for money. how many times you detail the car this well? like once or twice, rest is maintenance. so may be paying is the option for me...

Looks gorgeous. You've done a brilliant job.
I'm tempted to spend my bonus (if I get it) towards a rotary polisher now...

Our local club detailing maestro is going to give us a machine masterclass soon to how us how its done, this guy does the concourse judging at the Gaydon national show,he knows his onions!

It depends what your looking to do, I bought the equipment and did it myself as I wanted to learn how to do it and it was actually quite enjoyable, maybe I'm sad! the other advantage for me is if I want to do it again or do any future cars it'll cost me hardly anything for some pads and compound so it's a bit of an investment, I probably should of bought the stuff years ago come to think of it!

I'm not sure what them numbers mean, all's I can tell you is to start with the finest compound and most gentle pad and go from there. The Z4 paint is actually quite tough stuff, do you know about using quick detailer when machine polishing?
