Afternoon All

Well, the Chimaera found a new home at the weekend and I'm holding folding :) Insurance is sorted via Admiral on our multi-car policy and I'm ready to buy an 3.0 automatic Roadster in black, grey or blue with less than 60K on the clock for £9,000 or under. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of choice but I've earmarked a few prospects with trade and private sellers alike. Autotrader and eBay bore most fruit, PH had nothing at all (should I look anywhere else?).

Having recognised that car ownership is a mug's game (and very enjoyable), would you be inclined to go for something later with fewer miles and owners or accept that these things are well built and get something older that's been round the block a few times?

I have a legendary low boredom threshold but I'd expect to keep the car for a few years.

That seems a fair budget. Good luck with the search and welcome to the forum!

BTW, stretch the budget and buy an M if you can afford it!
 
General consensus is that the pre 2006 3.0i are a tad more reliable. Either way there's not much in it. All down to your personal preference and how many miles you're likely to add to it.

cant see a 3.0 ticking all the boxes after a tvr, but at least it will be more relaxing :thumbsup:

As with any car, I'd say good service history would be more important than mileage... auto box will restrict the number of cars you'll find, I would say. Good budget tho. You should be able to get a corker :thumbsup:

Very different for sure mate but Mrs K couldn't cope with the clutch so it had to go. Thoroughly enjoyed the time I had it but onwards and upwards. I was always wary of that pending money pit as well - when they do go wrong it tends be in counts of a £1,000 per fix :cry:

I went from a Tamora to a 3.0i Z4 with a good spec...will always miss the Trevor but the Z is an exellent car and still has the feel good factor..good pull AND economy...reliable too.
 
Is that because of the DMC(?)?

I seem to recall the manual box E46s suffered the same problem.

You can find good 3.0 out there. I picked up a 3.0, 2003 auto with 33K on the clock, good history and mint condition...£8490...dealer was excellent also...
 
You will easily find a Z for that money. I just picked up a 2003 3.0 manual with 52k, full history in immaculate condition for a touch over £6k and likewise, the dealer was great.

CDV obviously won't be an issue on an auto. You should enjoy the Z unless of course you liked the feeling that your car might try to kill you at any moment that the TVR probably gave :poke:

I had the choice of the car I bought or a 2006 3.0si coupe. A number of factors came into it but gut feeling was a big factor. A bit hippyish but I always go for the car that I get the best "vibe" from.

PS. I also suffer from a low automotive boredom threshold (7 cars in 3 years). I also suffer from that disease where if I test drive a car I have to buy it.
