Hey guys...

Looking for advice before I make my purchase!

I think I'm going to be buying a 3.0si...no more than 18months old!

The options I'm after include:-

- Hi-Fi Louder Speaker system...
- Wind Defelector
- Xenon's
- Cruise
- Electric Folding Mirrors
- Comfort Pack

Question is, is there anything in the options list you can buy easily aftermarket?

I mean I understand many have fitted there own Speaker system, I dont mind having a play myself so other than fitting speakers and amps does the head unit need to be replaced?!

Cruise, I understand dealers can fit this for about £120, is this correct?!

Comfort pack, to be honest I'm not wanting the parking sensors, is there anyways of having the comfort pack without the sensors?!

Not too fussed about the Sat Nav, or Bluetooth or Heated Seats...Basically, my friend owns a Z4, as nice as the Sat Nav is, its not something I'd NEEDED, also, the I'd never use the bluetooth, nor would I use the heated seats!

Thanks,
Tom

 Hi, great choice of car you're after.I think you'll find you'll definately need heated seats as it's a huge 'plus' point when you come to sell?

Sounds like a good spec. The xenons are a definate as the halogen lights are absolute gash on the car.

As Al says, heated seats are also a good option. I wouldnt be without mine.

Out of interest, why have you specified you specifically dont want PDC (parking sensors)? Think you may be out of luck there as all I believe all facelift 3.0s have them as std.

Good spec to be looking for.

They weren't standard immediately after the facelift as I don't have them on my 3.0 si. However, I do suspect a change in spec was done a little after the facelift as the Aux in became standard at somepoint, something that is missing from mine, ditto IsoFix on the passenger seat.

I think Cruise can be fitted cheaply - I want it done on mine. My spec is quite basic though a Sport, the only options are heated seats, wind deflector - it has the business CD, not sure if that is the upgraded one or not, but it is good enough for me, and I do like my hi-fi's. I don't have Xenons, but don't have huge issue with the normals, they're not amazing on standard beam (good enough though), but fine on full beam.

I would make sure you get the Sport Model, then you get the Sports seats and better alloys. If you can find one without a wind-deflector I'd be suprised, but you can just order one from BMW for not a lot of money.

my dealer quoted me £300 to fit the cruise control :o

On my car car (pre Oct '04) the wiring is present so I fitted it myself (10 mins) The kit comes with the wiring though if you are brave... The kit costs £150.

Heated seats are a must IMO

I'm not after parking sensors as I find it a girly feature which I'd never use and just doesnt do the cars looks many favours! I'd not say no to a car simply because of the Parking sensors tho!

I've asked about retro fitting the cruise and getting hold of a wind deflector, both seem simple enough! and enough on here seem to have upgarded there sound system so i'm happy to ago away an do mine too ;)

-Multi Func Steering Wheel
-SMG AUTO Gbox?
6 disc changer

on the 3.0si most of this stuff will be stuck on - so get everything you can as will help resale with the new z4 imminent!

Did i miss whether you're buying a Coupé or the Roadster? If it's a Coupé that explains why you don't want the heated seats! :)

I like my heated seats!!! :P

Welcome and great choice of car

To be honest those options you have listed would not concern me i would be more interested in the wheels i wanted low mileage and a good history plus heated M.Sport seats and a nice tidy well looked after car

The ones you listed

Extra speakers-have these and yes they are great with the top down

Parking sensors - have these never really use them

Wind Deflector - removed and sat in cuboard.

Cruise-would never use it

Comfort pack- i thought that was a US option

The multi function wheel and the storage pack are the other items in the comfort pack, you can fit them both afterwards. PDC is OK but is rear only TBH it's really required on the front not the rear, but never mind. You should find a car without it if you want, but it might be lacking in other options too.

As others have said IMHO heated seats are an absolute must, even if you don't want them you'll seriously limit your future market by not having them. Altough I can hardly recall seeing a facelift roadster them, so you likely end up with them even if you don't want them.

Try and get xenon lights too if you can, although they are pretty rare.

So we do get the comfort pack or are these options standard on the 3.0se ?

It was only on the facelift cars but obviously all options available individually too since the beginning - MFSW, rear PDC, storage pack (cupholders and net).

Worth having maybe, but if a car had all the options I wanted otherwise then it wouldn't stop me from getting it. Like you say, the 3.0 is and always has been a pretty well specced car as standard.

I'll be purchasing the Roadster!

Having trouble finding the right one at the minute tho! Basically I have an ideal car in mind!

BUT failing to find this ideal car I need to make sure I can get the items I want retro fitted...

Just really what everyone else says, hold out for the spec you want but don't be blinkered :). It's completely a buyer's market out there and you can afford to be fussy. I was.

I've just gone through the buying process and found a car with a good spec on it for me. Mine's quite a basic spec 3.0i SE but I was more interested in the condition of the car: low miles, FBMWSH, mechanical and bodywork condition counted more for me than spec. The only thing I would have liked would be the heated seats, but I've never had them in a car before so won't miss them plus the heater is brilliant anyway!

Hi-Fi upgrade: would be nice but just listen to the engine 8)

Wind deflector: I didn't find a car without it, but a cheap(ish) part to retrofit

Xenons: I wasn't too fussed, expensive to fix if they go wrong (happened to me with a previous car) plus the standard halogens can be improved easily by adjusting the headlamp aim and fitting uprated bulbs.

Cruise: I thought this is an easy, cheap retrofit (from reading this forum)

Folding mirrors: takes 2 secs to do manually!

Comfort pack: again I wasn't bothered about this

Just a note on the cruise control - haven't read through the whole post so maybe repeating. Cruise is relativly cheap to retrofit from a dealer (£300 including parts and labour) - BUT on a post 2004 car, fitting it yourself is quite involved, including cutting the wiring loom. Not something I am prepared to do on a car still in warranty.
