I'm learning new things by the day!

Hi forum,

Has anyone actually tried pressing the bmw button 5 times to get it to go up? There must be a secret combination? My hood goes down by pressing and holding the open button but can't understand why they wouldn't do both, ie if you want it to go down on the remote surely it is wise to be able to have it go up on the remote. I have said it once and I will say it again, BMW, brilliant in many ways yet so bloody stupid in others! This is what happens when you get a nerd to design a car and not a driver (and/or someone with copious amounts of common sense!).

I didn't have to get mine programmed it just worked. I get the impression that post facelift it's a standard feature.

I'd agree, its probably a H&S issue that prevents them doing the hood up operation remotely as well....

But I did try the one where you flash the headlights with the key in but ignition off and they do indeed stay on for 40 seconds after you've left and locked the car! Better than having it autoprogrammed I'd say....

Not to sound stupid, but what is FOC? I have an 05, I do know that it puts the top & windows down, but that's all I know. What all can the key be programed to do? BMW would never devulge any information if you don't ask.

Flag of Convenience where I come from but that wouldn't make sense.....

Thanks. So what can they program into the key? My warranty is about to run out, so I need to have anything & everything done before it does. I've heard others say BMW can upgrade thing, but if they don't tell you, we'll never know.

If you ask BMW they will give you a print out of all the options by car and each key. It's specific to model, age and market, so best to ask, but if you search various members have posted their print out and options

They will charge you as it's not a warranty or free item. Expext £20 to £50

Or if you are friendly with the dealer, do it yourself whilst the car is in the showroom. The "programming" computer is nerd proof, so just press the colour button with the description next to it for the functions you want. I did my previous Z in about 5 minutes whilst it was being prepped.
