I'm Famous!! [Nurburgring Trip2023 - Whoopsie at Brunnchen]

Thanks. The cutting out has gone, for now, but I have a fair idea of what's causing it, no biggy.
The car is handling well I'd agree, but it understeers too much for my liking. I'd had a lot of work done to the rear and the geo was re-set not quite to my settings. I was a bit annoyed at the time but on reflection I'd say the car is probably faster round a lap. That said, it's not as much as fun so I'll most likely put it back to slower and trying to kill you spec some time soon

That's good to hear its not a big issue!

I definitely think the car looks smoother/easier to extract a lap time from in the current setup, but yeah it's all about fun on a trackday! I'd be curious to know what you set the geo to on yours, just be interested to compare to mine at some point!

I guess in retrospect this was a little inevitable

You are included in the best of 2024 link below even though it was 2023 . Your off is at about 13:00 and another Z4 at about 15:00

Lol thanks for bringing that back to the top

I was back again in may this year but no whoopsies! The weather was shite a lot of the trip (pissing it down), and when the sun did show up my alternator started to pack up so I had to limp the car back home after only a handful of laps, none really getting into the groove :(

My wife is expecting our next baby next week so I'll probably be limited to local trackdays next year if I'm lucky, so the ring photographers can breathe a sigh if relief

At least you were on your own..some of the prangs with pax on board..much more poo!

If you don't step over the edge you'll never know where it was!

Haha, at some point I'll end up in more trouble for it, the wife still doesn't know anything about that one!

Congratulations  If the baby is a bit late just show your wife the video that should do the trick :)

Wow, very glad you missed the wall! It looks like you were so close to catching that, maybe the camber kicked it back out, looks like it really snapped after the first bit of the save? Was traction control off totally?

Good to see that you had the foresight to switch on the wipers to clear away you tears of frustration :P

Hahaha, I'm not showing her this one no matter what, she'll never let me go back again
Thanks very much, very excited but also dreading the sleepless nights!

Yeah Tc fully off, I don't bother leaving it on on track when it's dry, it absolutely roasts the rear brakes, and it's so primitive it kills any rotation of the car.

Well I think a year on I've given up hiding my below-average driving so will link the onboard video at the bottom, the whoopsie is about 7.20ish in if you can't be bothered to watch the rest of the video! I'm not one to make excuses but to me the way it snapped felt like I'd hit fluid or maybe I'd overheated the (7 year old pilot supersport) tyres...? I think I'd fairly nearly collected it when the rear seemed to suddenly grip on me, and spat me out the other way. Heyho, jolly exciting and I'm lucky to have escaped without more severe consequence!

  ffs! First thing my mate said when I showed him the footage back at lunch 'why did you put your wipers on Ed, it was perfectly dry?'

For everyone's general amusement....

You just need the code after the ‘youtu.be‘ and before the ‘?’

The onboard looks mad, looks like you made the difference keeping it in one piece! The water bottle though, how many times I have one doing that in mine, and can't reach it, or break a rib trying

It does grip up oddly, that's why I was wondering about TC or something intervening, although super sports can be properly grippy when they're warm. The panic to get out of the car at the end

Yeah it was a bit 'frantic' I'm relatively comfortable with the car moving around underneath me but that went very big very fast, and on the most watched corner on probably any racetrack in the world

The way it let go and then gripped felt quite inconsistent to me, not like it had felt all weekend, or indeed at any other trackday. I still swear by supersports as one of the best dry grip road tyres which can cope with a bit of track time - it's not a track tyre however so I do think I was possibly expecting too much of it, and I think there may have been a component of them being a bit overheated, not to mention they were 8 years old too, so past their best..!

Yeah the panic was due to the sudden onset of a clatter from the engine bay.... I think it was the exhaust blowing in the end, it was gone after a few mins cooling off in the carpark, and when I took the manifold off over winter it was cracked almost completely through at the joint for the midpipe, as well as slightly blowing from one of the gaskets on the engine.

Tc was definitely fully off so yep definitely an odd one, fortunately no harm done either way. Still cant wait to go back, hopefully next year (if the wife remains ignorant of this at least  )

Holy moly..! Good to see both you or the car didn't meet the barrier..
That's a proper 'sh1t yourself moment' right there..
