Got talked into trying a Kindle - brilliant . Always loved books for themselves so resisted up to now. Got a proper leather cover that fits perfectly so feels like a book when you hold it. We do a fair bit of travelling so its ideal for reading on a train or aeroplane . Off on our annual pilgrimage to Greece soon so will be ideal to read on the beach. Amazon has loads of free books and all the best sellers at half the price of conventional books. You can also change the text size to a more comfortable view. If anyone is thinking of getting one I would highly recommend.

I have literally hundreds and hundreds of books - I can get through a good one I less than a week, and that's not when on holiday... I got Kindle for iPad last summer and haven't looked back, much. I love being able to finish one and download the next, or another, in minutes. That said I occassionally miss the feel of an actual book, and I miss spending an hour browsing in Waterstones... Though I still do that sometimes, then come home and buy on Amazon.
Have been tempted to invest in one quite a few times,but me and the mrs are avid readers and can imagine the fight over it on holiday !

Yes like you my wife and I have one each - as you say saves quite a bit of weight instead of taking lots of books on holiday. Good old Thomson have reduced the baggage rate from 20 to 15 kilos or pay an extra £22 for an extra 5 kilos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll buy lighter suitcases and put more in hand luggage rather than pay the buggers more money.
I've been using the kindle app on the iPad and am now buying ebooks for the "pulp fiction" and just buying the books I really want in hardback.
We've also got the Android kindle app installed on our phones. Far harder to read given the size (and type) of the screen, and it destroys your battery, but it's quite useful if you don't have your kindle with you. It synchs with whatever you're reading, so you can continue reading where you left off. TBH I don't use it by Mrs a11y does quite a bit on her phone.
I do not have the Kindle Fire which is rather their flagship tablet which sort of keeps up with the other ones in the market like the iPad and the slew of Android options.
For me, the Kindle 3, which they have branded as they Kindle keyboard now, is already great and works without problems.
I don't think that the Fire would be able to compete vis-à-vis to the upper tier tablets though but is completely great with its own level.
