Very nice JE. Are they made out of platinum?

Even though you don't have footwell lights which I'm surprised you haven't, I would of thought the plugs should be there somewhere.

foot well light plugs are there- they are taped back- I found them and added footwells to mine.
Lovely
On that note, where to get foot well lights?

I used these ones on ebay

Got two sets , one set for the footwell lights and the other to do the cubby box between the seats and boot light

Look great JE... very bling.

I did a quick quide when i fitted my oem ones incase it helps:: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=41404

If you dont have footwell lights the retrofit guide mac linked too has the module you can connect directly to.

Also looking at your kit you may have to cut the plug and solder it.. that connector looks to big to fit through the door sill hole... unless it has a place to sit under the door sill itself... which looks unlikely

Straight from the US of A, hand made and unique and waited a month for them.....£300 with import tax :)
Only issue is that i have to run these from the footwell light with a scotch lock however i dont have a footwell light, will the power supply be there already or is there additional wiring for me to do?

Have a look at this, it tells how to wire the original BMW illuminated door sill covers in.
Might be similar set up.

Reading both readups, it seems i have to run the wires from both door sills to the main modual on the passenger side? Also unsure of what wires go where as mine are both black and one has a faint white line which i guess is the positive, any help with where wires go into modual with the scotch locks?

I would just use a 9V battery and test the sills for which cable is the + and -.

The ideal route is to the footwell wiring as saves running the drivers side to the passengers glovebox... But as yours is a 05 chances are the wiring may not be in place for them.

Def worth gettinf footwell lights while you are at it though... Really adds a nice touch to the interior at night.... Could get them in red to match your sills too

Did you do the sensible thing and apply 12v to the wires before fitting to check the sills work?

I have the oem footlights- they weren't listed as a part for the roadster but were for the coupe. Easy two min job that lifts the interior.

Hi Jonny, have you got a multi meter you can use to check for voltage? I have one you could borrow if it helps you out.
Rob

Have you checked there is power to the wire? Also is the earth connected properly. If these are OK probably got the wires the wrong way round.

Umm assuming they do work... A couple of things...

The footwell lights go off after a while... Have you tried closing the door, locking and reopeing? Think they stay on for like a minute of so.

If that doesnt work defo worth investing in a £10 multimeter from maplins and check the power and earth. The earth has to be clean.. Its worth filing any paint off the surface.

You mentioned scotch lock, you sure that connection makes true? As you mention that the wire is thin, it is easy for them to cut them straight through or not make contact at all.

The way you can test that is use a light bulb (12v), and hold one side against the metal part of the scotch lock and the other side against earth.

Hi

Also check the polarity .. as LED's only work in one direction (Anode & Cathode etc)

check on a power supply 1st just in case they got the supply wires the wrong way round

If they are, there is indeed a very good chance that you have the polarity the wrong way around.
