Ignition switch help required please

Shouldn't they be permanently disconnected? Otherwise the parking lights will be permanently powered, even when the ignition is on.
Disconnecting them would just disable the parking lights I think. As you say, you could fit a relay to keep the original behaviour.

Yes. I have had a think and I will disconnect them permanently.

I know this is an old post, but the parking lights only operate with the ignition off, and the indicator switch left on L or R. So no need to disconnect them.

I didn't see this originally but they're probably signal wires to something to give a positive indication that the ignition is off; ie instead of just relying on a line not being powered or dragged low, there's a definite 12v signal. To my mind that's probably light and body modules. Nothing will be powered by them as such as all the important modules are permanently powered - lights module for parking lights, see me home, hazards etc, body module for central locking, windows on door barrel turn, etc.

Examples would be the body module wanting to know definitely that the key is out to avoid being able to lock it in the car. Lights module possibly for signally that the indicator stalk signal is parking light selection.

Years ago Ford used a similar arrangement to ground the accessory and ignition positions when off as a cheap and cheerless way of trying to prevent hot-wiring.

Now to find an adjustable ten second delay timer to 'fake' the airbag warning light!!

I've used one of these to good effect as a delay timer for my electric gate latch - been in operation for over 5 years now

Should do exactly what you want, it's flexible enough that you can use any switched line as the trigger. Just need to build it into a small case.

This thread is ancient history, now. The 'additional wires' on the ignition switch were for the 'parking lights', which are now disconnected.
The delay timer was purchased from eBay and has been in and working for months. I bought an adjustable item which can be set between 1 and 10 seconds. Mine is set at 5.
